Prayer of Augustine 354-430 AD link

Look upon us, O Lord,
and let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.
Fill us with holy love,
and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom.
All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek thy face,
turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.
Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.
(Augustine, 354 – 430)

Prayer of 1Clement c.96 link

We ask you, Master, be our helper and defender. Rescue those of our number in distress;
raise up the fallen; assist the needy; heal the sick; turn back those of your people who stray;
feed the hungry; release our captives; revive the weak; encourage those who lose heart.
Let all the nations realize that you are the only God, that Jesus Christ is your Child,
and that we are your people and the sheep of your pasture.
Amen

The Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

Benediction: Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think,
according to the power at work within us, t
o him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations,
forever and ever.
Amen.

  1. senecagriggs,

    She just retired. I think she was there for over 30 years. She is now thinking about some things for postretirement. No, Seneca, they didn’t fire her. Many people, including me, well-loved her.

    She is an excellent example of a woman pastor who was ardently devoted to the Scripture and NEVER rolled down that slippery slope that is often mentioned. So be nice. She is a long-time friend.

  2. dee,

    I love her too – and I’ve only listened to her the two times you have featured her! If she were to start a ‘small’ church, I’d be there in a heartbeat 😉

  3. Ava Aaronson: There’s another woman teaching LIVE at Bent Tree this morning, showing on YouTube. Didn’t catch her name.

    She is a guest speaker, Kat Armstrong.

    Wow. No issues with a woman speaker on Sunday morning, for their worship services.

    Interesting how some create enormous obstacles that do not exist for others. Perhaps some folks need to get over themselves?

  4. dee,

    Never thought she’d been fired; staff changes at church are quite common for a variety of reasons. Congratulations to JoAnn; may she have many years of healthy retirement.

  5. Jesus always speaks in double (and more) entendres, to catch out them of forked tongue.

  6. FreshGrace,

    Welcome.

    I was looking at what Bent Tree Church was doing live on Sunday morning, via their website, and thus found Kat Armstrong giving her talk. So, two women preaching and teaching at Bent Tree Church without a lot of fanfare over the fact that these are women teaching in church, to mixed company. None of the men are losing their manhood over it, apparently.

  7. Ava Aaronson: None of the men are losing their manhood over it, apparently.

    You’ll only find that (dong obsession) in ‘Chrislam’, not in real-world-free-in-Christ practical Christianity.
