Prayer of St Francis of Assisi: The Praises of God link

Lord God:
you alone are holy,
you who work wonders!
You are strong, you are great,
you are the Most High,
you are the almighty King,
you, holy Father, King of heaven and earth.

Lord God: you are Three and you are One,
you are goodness, all goodness,
you are the higest Good,
Lord God, living and true.

You are love and charity, you are wisdom,
you are humility, you are patience,
you are beauty, you are sweetness,
you are safety, you are rest, you are joy,
you are our hope
and our delight,
you are justice, you are moderation
you are all our wealth
and riches overflowing.

You are beauty, you are gentleness,
you are our shelter, our guard
and our defender,
you are strength, you are refreshment,
you are our hope.
you are our faith.
you are our love,
you are our complete consolation,
you are our life everlasting,
great and wonderful Lord,
all-powerful God, merciful Savior!
Amen.

Prayer of St Francis-not really but still wonderful link

History: “That prayer is known worldwide as ‘The Prayer of St Francis’ was probably written in the 20th century, appearing in 1912
In a small spiritual magazine called La Clochette (the little bell). It was published in Paris by a Catholic association known as L
a Ligue de la Sainte-Messe, “The Holy Mass League,” founded in 1901 by a French priest, Father Esther Bouquerel (1855-1923).
The prayer bore the title of Belle priere a faire pendant la messe; “A Beautiful Prayer to Say During the Mass” and was published anonymously.
The author could have possibly been Father Bouquerel himself, but until now the identity of the author remains a mystery. (source www.americancatholic.org)

Lord make me
an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred,
Let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, Joy.

O Divine Master grant that I may
Not so much seek to be consoled
As to console;
To be understood,
As to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it is in dying that we are
Born to eternal life.
Amen

Another prayer by St Francis link

Most high, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness
of my heart and give me Lord,
a correct faith, a certain hope,
a perfect charity, sense and knowledge,
so that I may carry out
Your holy and true command.
Amen

Years ago, before I was married, I had the opportunity to see Corrie Ten Boom speak at Park Street Church in Boston.
This was my wonderful church, and I heard many such speakers. Corrie was a tiny woman, and they had to get a riser
so she could speak from the pulpit in this historical church. I never forgot her words about how she was able to shake the
hand of one of her former prison guards. She offered him her forgiveness!
She and her family were put in a Nazi prison camp because they were found to be hiding Jews in their home.
Perhaps you have seen the movie, The Hiding Place? Israel honored her family and her by naming them Righteous Among Nations.
I visited Yad Vashem: The World Holocaust Remembrance Center when I was in Israel and saw their remembrance of her and her family.
It was quite moving (think tears.) I thought this talk by her might be encouraging to our readers.

Benediction: The Blessing of St. Francis of Assisi to Brother Leo link

The Lord bless you and keep you.
May He show His face to you and have mercy.
May He turn His countenance to you and give you peace.
The Lord bless you!

    Speaking of … watching The U.S. and the Holocaust (Ken Burns et al).

    I did have the priviledge of hearing her speak back in the 70’s sometime. I was too young to truly appreciate her, but I do remember being captivated by her story. I suspect her real message went right by me.

    “God’s Smuggler” with Brother Andrew

    “The Cross and the Switchblade” with David Wilkerson.

    These 3 were produced as films.
