A Prayer from Deitrich Bonhoeffer: I Cannot Do This Alone link

O God, early in the morning I cry to you.
Help me to pray and to concentrate my thoughts on you;
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness, but with you there is light;
I am lonely, but you do not leave me; I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help;
I am restless, but with you there is peace. In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience;
I do not understand your ways, but you know the way for me….
Restore me to liberty, and enable me to live now that I may answer before you and before men.
Lord whatever this day may bring, Your name be praised.
Amen.

A Prayer of Confession from the Worship Sourcebook link

God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost.
We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way.
We are misled by pride, for we see ourselves pure when we are stained and great when we are small.
We have failed in live, neglected justice, and ignored your truth.
Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin.
Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.

A Prayer from John Wesley: link

O merciful Father, do not consider what we have done against you;
but what our blessed Savior has done for us.
Don’t consider what we have made of ourselves,
but what He is making of us for you our God.
O that Christ may be “wisdom and righteousness, sanctification and redemption”
to every one of our souls.
May His precious blood may cleanse us from all our sins,
and your Holy Spirit renew and sanctify our souls.
May He crucify our flesh with its passion and lusts,
and cleanse all our brothers and sisters in Christ across the earth.
Amen.

Be sure to hear Pete take an unexpected turnaround at 28-minute mark

Benediction for Lent link

Whatever wilderness the Spirit has brought you to:
walk in boldness, as a beloved child of God
walk in peace, under the shelter of the Most High
walk in faith, knowing Christ walks with you.
Amen

  1. Lord God, please bring peace to Ukraine. Mend broken relationships between the Orthodox Church of Russia and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Give world leaders wisdom as they grapple with this tragic invasion. Thank You for the generosity of ordinary citizens of other European countries, opening their borders and even their homes to fleeing refugees. May US citizens also be willing and eager to “welcome the stranger” into our own country.

    Deliver us from evil.

  2. Regarding the 28 minute mark, a comment with discussion from Max and Wilhelm about the elders’ letters yesterday seems appropriate:

    “You cite the same paragraph that jumped off the page at me! The 9Marx fingerprints are there: ‘guided more by a commitment to the preservation of CHBC as an institution than a commitment to the Gospel’ … ‘prioritize loyalty, legal protections, reputations, community standing, membership numbers, and budgets over biblical health, truth, consensus building, and care for individual members of the body’ … ‘unbiblical sense of “unity” … ‘adherence to a narrow set of theological convictions and priorities’ … ‘Gospel casualties have resulted from this shift in focus.’
