A Prayer of Ambrose (c 339-97) link

O Lord, who hast mercy upon all, take away from me my sins,
and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirit.
Take away from me the heart of stone,
and give me a heart of flesh,
a heart to love and adore thee,
a heart to delight in thee,
to follow and to enjoy thee,
for Christ’s sake.
In Jesus name,
Amen

Prayer of Benedict link

Gracious and Holy Father,
Please give me:
intellect to understand you,
reason to discern you,
diligence to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
a spirit to know you,
a heart to meditate upon you,
ears to hear you,
eyes to to see you,
a tongue to proclaim you,
a way of life pleasing to you,
patience to wait for you
and perseverance to look for you.

Grant me a perfect end,
your holy presence,
a blessed resurrection
and life everlasting.
Amen

Scripture Reading: Luke 12:32-40 (NASB Bible Gateway)

Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

“Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Be in Readiness

“Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.  Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.  Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

“But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into.  You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

The Lord's Prayer
Traditional: Taken from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer 1662

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Benediction

The Lord bless you, and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance on you,
And give you peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

    Welcome, fellow prayer warrior!

  5. Pray for Dee and her husband about Polly’s recent death.

And for them caring for several other aging relatives.

It’s been one of those years for the Parsons family as Dee said.

  6. From the top of the this blog’s page:

Prayers needed for Tom and Lori Bridgewood.
Lori was seriously hurt in a car accident when the driver had what was probably a heart attack. She is out of danger but will require extensive surgery on the fractures of her face.

  7. Wade, I want you to know how very much I appreciate you and your messages. Thank you so much.

I had to cringe when you mentioned being scared when you saw the rubber snake in your office, because two weeks ago I had the unpleasant task of killing a real one that had found it’s way into my living room. Southwest Florida has some critters who refuse to follow the rules of hospitality! The snake was only about 4-5 inches long which is how it managed to get in, but I couldn’t catch it cause it wiggled continually so I had to kill it. When my 48-yr.old son heard about it, he said I was a better man than he was! lol

Anyway, when you mentioned Jesus coming to us and bringing a city with Him, I got tears in my eyes. While I’ve rarely been fearful of anything in my whole life, as I get older, the issue of death has brought some fear that I can’t shake. It is, after all, a experience we’ve never had so unknowns don’t sit well with me.

In our weekly advertisements that fill out mail boxes, there has been one from a thrift shop run by Teen Challenge. Since David Wilkerson’s book was instrumental in my finding the Lord, I thought I’d visit the shop to look around. When I entered, I was blessed to hear Christian music playing throughout the store. I looked around a bit and then saw two young men at the register and I stopped to chat with them. I asked them if they were residents of the Teen Challenge program and both said they were. They were heroin addicts and recovering for the past 9 mos. and working in the store. I shared how Wilkerson’s book, “The Cross and the Switchblade” was instrumental in my finding the Lord and they loved that. They asked me if there was anything they could pray with me about. Out of my mouth came…”yes, I’m afraid to die.” I must tell you I was shocked that I felt so comfortable and vulnerable at the same time, but there it was. They each took my hand and prayed that God would comfort me and give me to grace to see that death was not to be feared for believers and I cried and thanked them for ministering to me.

I get tears in my eyes just remembering the beauty of two heroin addicts praying with this little old lady in the middle of a thrift store where they were working. That was the body of Christ in action.

All of that is to say, your message today was very encouraging to me as well. I was blessed!

    Mary Ann

  8. An Orthodox Morning Prayer,
for the sake of those who are suffering and those who need Christ’s peace:

“Only the Word of God takes us out of the darkness. Light comes only from God. Light always is from God, for there is no darkness in God. The light of the day is a resurrection every morning.
“In the mornings I have meditated upon Thee, for Thou hast become my Helper, and under the shelter of Thy wings will I rejoice. My soul hath cleaved unto Thee; Thy right hand hath upholden me.”

Blessed be the Name of the Lord always, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.”

  9. For the sake of Uncle Dad and his family, a prayer

“In the wake of unexplainable suffering,
    walk with us.
Comfort those who lost loved ones
    unexpectedly and needlessly.
Renew their hearts with Your grace.
    Wash them with Your tears.
Breathe Your life into their spirits.
Christ, in Thy great mercy hear us O Lord.
    Amen.”
