Welcome to Our Gathering of EChurch@Wartburg

Enhanced Rainbow by Barb Ver Sluis

Here is our order of worship

"Dearest Lord, teach me to be generous;
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not heed the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to seek reward,
Save that of knowing that I do your will.
Fill us, we pray, with your light and life,
That we may show forth your wondrous glory.
Grant that your love may so fill our lives that we may count nothing too hard to near."
Amen

Ignatius Loyola (circa 1500s)
The Complete Book of Christian Prayer

A prayer of Irenaeus
“Give growing maturity to beginners, O Father; give intelligence to the little ones; give aid to those who are running their course. Give sorrow to the negligent; give fervor of spirit to the lukewarm. Give to the mature a good end; for the sake of Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.”

Irenaeus- Early church father @200 A.D. Link

Classic Prayer: Eleventh Century
"O plenteous source of every good and perfect gift,
shine the cheering light of Your sevenfold grace over our hearts.
Yes, Spirit of love and gentleness, we most humbly plead Your assistance.
You know our faults, our failings, our needs, the dullness of our understanding,
the waywardness of our affections, the stubbornness of our will.
When, therefore, we neglect to practice what we know, visit us, we pray, with Your grace,
enlighten our minds, put right our desires, correct our wanderings, and pardon our omissions,
so that by Your guidance we may be preserved from making shipwreck of faith
and keep a good conscience, and may at length be landed safe in the haven of eternal rest;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." Link

Scripture Reading:  Hebrews 10:19-20  (NASB Bible Gateway)

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a [a]sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Benediction – Colossians 3:15-17 (NIV)

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
since as members of one body you were called to peace.
And be thankful.
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly
as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit,
singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Amen

Thank you for spending your precious time worshipping the Lord.

  1. Truly beautiful, inspirational service! Thank you again.

As a side note….I’m wondering if Pastor Wade has a photographic memory. ….smile… I ask this because of the sharing of his friend’s (James Quoman (sp?) testimony was presented with such detail that it amazed me. How could one without such a memory possibly remember that 2,330 fishermen participated in a tournament?

Bless you all for your ministry on behalf of the body of Christ.

  2. I love this sermon.

“I am happy to pray for those who ask, but we need to be clear, I have no more spiritual authority, no more spiritual responsibility than you.”

We (born again Christians) have the same access to God, the same ability to give our request in prayer as Wade or any other spiritual leader. Isn’t that beautiful? And it has nothing to do with our performance. It has everything to do with Christ. Intimacy is not sexual, but “into me you see”. God knows our faults, our weaknesses, and yet we can still go to God and tell him everything. Ask for anything knowing He hears. We are accepted by God! Wow! We don’t need to ask others to pray, we can do that ourselves and have the same power, the same impact in our prayers to God than Wade or any other minister.

“When we draw near to God, it is because we have a great Priest, not a great performance.”

“As a side note….I’m wondering if Pastor Wade has a photographic memory.”

    Victorious,

I have been wondering the same thing. As I’ve watched Wade week after week, he is preaching without any prepared notes. He shares so many details from memory that it is intriguing…

  4. Victorious and Deb,

I can assure you my memory is not photographic! Too many mistakes to be photographic 🙂 I speak extemporaneously because I want the message to be from the heart, not the head. I work hard to know the direction I am going and everyone who attends Emmanuel receives a full outline of the message (no fill in the blank outline) if they want one. This style is not for everyone!

A majority of the time I speak at funerals with no notes, including giving the biography of the individual — that’s where I have to be careful, cause you sure don’t want to make a mistake on relatives names, relationships, etc… – even if it is from memory! However, it’s worth the effort. One of my pet peaves is for a “preacher” to do a funeral and have no clue about the life of the person of whom he is speaking. The reason I know the facts is I’ve spent several hours exploring (and typing) a full manuscript of the person’s life, a manuscript I give to the family after the service. But I speak with no notes.

That’s similar to the way I prepare a message. I learned this from Spurgeon who never spoke from a manuscript or notes, but would edit a transcript of his message and send them out the following week as “The Penny Pulpit” series, which is now called “The Metroplitan Tabernacle Pulpit Series” and worth their weight in gold!

You ladies have a great weekend!

P.S. You make an interesting point about the number of fisherman in the illustration! I’m not sure why that number stuck with me, but when James told me 2,330, it imprinted in my mind. I think over time, when you really train yourself LISTEN to people, then what those people say is not typically forgotten!

  5. Wade,

See, this just goes to show that you’re not losing your memory.

I’m still laughing about that joke –

“Hey Rose, what was the name of that book (to strengthen your memory)?!”

  6. “I want the message to be from the heart, not the head.”

It certainly comes across exactly that way, Wade. Such a blessing! Thank you.

  7. Scarlett,

So glad you’re enjoying EChurch! It ministers to us just as much as it does to you. Blessings!

  9. This is off topic but I have to ask… Tim Keller GC extraoridaire is at biologos conference. Why isn’t Al Mohler attacking him? That really threw me for a loop.

  10. Another great message. Wade preaches what I already heard growing up. However, it’s done with such love that it sounds like a different message. Isn’t God WONDERFUL!! I don’t think I am as scared of God as I was before. I am beginning to truly see his loving nature and not just the punishing side and the “if you don’t obey me by doing this then I won’t bless you” side I was brought up to believe. So glad God is patient!!

  12. Wade – Dee told me about EChurch and this is the first time I’ve EVisited – lol. I don’t think it’s coincidental that you used the attorney story in describing our God as our advocate. For the first time in my life, I have retained an attorney because of a $500K lawsuit against me and 3 others. This lawsuit was brought on by my former pastor and church. My attorney is fighting on my behalf and I see the amount of time involved with me and others as the case is being worked on. To think God is working like that for me! That illustration really touched me. :::tears::: I’m so thankful for the EChurch in providing a safe haven for those who want to worship, yet who might not feel comfortable to go to a physical church after being hurt by spiritual abuse. I will be mentioning your EChurch on my blog which deals with my story and spiritual abuse.

  13. Free,

Went to your blog and read a little of your story. Very, very sad. You and Tom Rich have a great deal in common. The good news is, in the end, with the information age and all, the truth is eventually discovered.

Thanks for your kind words, and blessings to you and your family.

    Wade

  14. Thank you so much, Wade. You are right – we do have a lot in common. I just read his blog update this morning. That is good news and makes me hopeful for my case and for all bloggers.

  15. This is the first time I have attended, as I learned of it from the Women in Ministry blog. I picked my user name to describe how I feel about this service being offered here. I am a private person, and being able to tune in, and listen to God’s Word, in the non-threatening enviroment of my home, is a blessing to me.

It’s very nice of Pastor Burleson to do this.

  16. A safe place,

We are so glad you have joined us at EChurch! I still am amazed that we have been able to put together a virtual church for you and those like you who are fearful to attend a church service. I hope you will go through all of our EChurch posts be inspired by Wade’s sermons as well as the songs and prayers.

We are grateful to have you here with us! Blessings to you.
