  1. So many stories, so little time…

    Dee,

Remember when I hesitated starting this blog because I didn’t think there would be enough to write about.

    Boy was I wrong!!! 😛

  2. You better post this at, like, midnight, because the suspense between now and then is going to kill me.

  3. Paul
You may steal our thunder whenever you please. Thanks for the links. Did you see my post: Mark Driscoll: Did He Stutter?

  4. I’m excited to see what’s coming, Dee. I’ve been quiet on this site, but believe me, I’ve not been idle. I think it should give you some hope that others are speaking out. I am so sorry for what has happened to you. but, you are now an official member of The Fellowship of the Wounded and we are a nice group of people.

  5. I just read the joyfulexiles post and where there is smoke there is fire. The same story is being told over and over and over. It is different circumstances, but it is the same story. Oh my, I was starting to doubt some of this, but I think I was wrong.

Dee or Deb, is this the same process that Piper, Dever, Mohler use or are advocating within their churches or is Driscoll just a Calvinista that has a different take on authority in the church? Is there someone here who can comment on that?

Something is amiss with these guys, and it can’t just be Calvinism. I mean J. MacArthur is a Calvinist, but you don’t hear about people leaving his church because of spiritual abuse. This has to be Calvinism coupled with something else. What is that something else? Mahaney, Mohler, Dever, Piper, and Driscoll are all Calvinists and seem to have an authoritarian problem. What is going on?

  6. Paul and Jonna –

I just read your story over at your blog. I’m so sorry that you had to go through this heartache. I was sick reading about your Dad, Jonna. I am thankful your father came to know and love the Lord . . . I’m sure that was a joy and peace for you even in the midst of your ashes. I pray God will continue to strengthen and comfort you, and restore what the locusts have devoured. He is certainly willing and able!

I was outright mad when I read of your appeal to CJ Mahaney and John Piper. They may think they are humble and minding their own business, but I believe they are cowards. I don’t say this with malice, just as truth. None of the RBDs will stand up and speak against anything. I have lost respect for all of them. CJ Mahaney is in his own world of denial and abuse toward those around him. You would not have been helped with his involvement. (I am in an SGM church, but not for long – one way or another.)

  7. Robin said, “I mean J. MacArthur is a Calvinist but you don’t hear about people leaving his church because of spiritual abuse.”

Actually I have heard of it, and of the clone churches, too.

  8. Yeah, about MacArthur…don’t forget, he’s the one that introduced Gary Ezzo to the Evangelical community. He was on staff at MacArthur’s church.

I give John credit for following through on public discipline when things could not be resolved with Ezzo, but a big zero on discernment when it comes to the parenting advice Ezzo was giving.

This is all related. Note” piper and Mahaney come up in the story line and they did nothing, as usual. You can be sure that this is the same process that goes on in all of these churches. you do not question “The Man.” They are modern day Pharisees. The whole thing is based on hyper-authoriatainism combined with an inordinate amount of self aggrandizement. And it is seen in many churches under different titles but the Calvinistas have perfected it to a fine art.

I, too, have heard the same thing. If you know anyone who would like to tell their story, we will publish it.

I, too, am disgusted about the Ezzo teachings. I cannot believe that any intelligent person would recommend such silly methods, especially the feeding schedule for babies. It is very, very dangerous, and we have railed against it on this blog. That is when I first started to question MacArthur. Anyone willing to force an arbitrary schedule on healthy babies may also be willing to pull other authority moves on adults.

I can read Joyful Exiles. Maybe it is a server problem on your end? Don’t worry. It’s going up here in a matter of a couple of hours.

Is Ezzo the quarter-inch plumbing supply line guy? (Leaves no marks for Child Protective Services…)

  14. HUG
The plumbing line guy is strange dude Michael Pearl.Ezzo believes in not feeding infants except on a rigid schedule which can cause severe malnutrition in low birth weight babies. These guys love to pontificate on anyone who is weaker than them. Anyone stronger would punch them out.

  15. HeadlessUG-

Yeah, I don’t know if Ezzo ever spelled out how to carry out “the rod”, but I remember our SGM church teaching to use glue sticks to spank children (even under a year old). Our pastor told us that he could refer us to a doctor who did not check the children’s bottoms because he supported spanking and did not want to have to report it…the church’s version of don’t ask don’t tell…

I am disgusted that I didn’t go straight to the police, but I was not even a parent yet and did not fully understand how abusive this all was….
