5/2/17 The Mistake Christians Made in Defending Bill O’Reilly
4.24.17 Bible Answer man, Hank Hanegraaff converts to Orthodoxy.
4.24.17 Why Orthodoxy Appeals to Hank Hanegraaff and Other Evangelicals
“I saw Chinese Christians who were deeply in love with the Lord, and I learned that while they may not have had as much intellectual acumen or knowledge as I did, they had life.” (Hank Hanegraaff)
So he converted to Greek Orthodoxy to find life?! Folks, no single religious expression is the keeper of spiritual life! If you surrender your intellect to Christ and allow Him to live through you, you can experience Him and the life He has to offer … yep, even as a Southern Baptist! What Brother Hanegraaff has discovered is that he allowed his “intellectual acumen” to no longer supersede an encounter with the living Lord and that education does not produce one ounce of revelation. When you bring your mind into subjection to the mind of Christ within you, you experience life. It’s not a matter of stacking up more knowledge about Him, but knowing Him. Praise God, that Brother Hanegraaff found life, no matter where he now worships. So many others who spend lengthy careers learning and delivering Bible facts miss life altogether. Some religions focus more on having the right system at the expense of developing believers to have a right relationship with the living God. But, at the end of the day, it is a personal journey.

I am an evangelical in a country where the Eastern-Orthodox church is called the state church, the national church. According to polls, over 86 % of the people are Orthodox. I am aware of what that looks like and what the Orthodox beliefs are. For an evangelical to become Orthodox – I truly find it unfathomable.

This is a great idea!

Are you guys going to put these permanent pages in a main tab at the top of the home page, like under the “interesting” tab, or each in its own tab, or what not?
(That would make them easier to find. At least for me.)

Hanegraaff mentions Watchman Nee, who was a good guy. For example, Nee’s book, Spiritual Reality or Obsession, is helpful in dealing with what is charismatic and pseudo-charismatic.
Hanegraaff has come full circle? Orthodoxy and evangelicalism: these two actually work together well in some countries, probably because in those situations, Christians are dealing with what really matters.

The Church has always been its best when persecuted and desperate. The genuine rises to the surface to stand in faith; the counterfeit runs for the hills.

Agreed. Nee’s “Sit, Walk, Stand” was one of the first religious books I read as a young Christian. Because of his bold faith and Christian influence, Nee was persecuted and imprisoned in Communist China, spending the last twenty years of his life in prison.

Since you are close to Todd at THou Art the Man, I assume you arre aware of his latest post: Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) Funded Abuse of Nigerian Orphans
https://thouarttheman.org/2017/04/24/voice-martyrs-vom-funded-abuse-nigerian-orphans/
I am saddened to need to share this travesty and cover-up of evil by the Voice of the Martyrs – USA. I have supported that ministry many times over the past three decades and encouraged others to do so. I repent and ask forgiveness. This article contains links to additional sources. There is a change.org petition about this also, linked in the article. Even Michael Wurmbrand, the elderly son of the VOM founders, Richard and Sabrina Wurmbrand, has called for repentance by VOM-USA. Thank you to Barbara Roberts for bringing this to my attention on FB.

@ rasinwhiting:
VOM has had earlier issues, such as the executives’ living large, an executive alleged assault of a child (age 10) and subsequent suicide, etc.
This being the case it was surprising to note SBC IMB David Platt mentioning VOM in the film about Christian martyrs, The Insanity of God with missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken.
It seems that the offspring of Pastor Richard Wurmbrand (VOM founder) have disavowed or now disclaim VOM – thought I read this some place.

I thought this would be a good topic for TWW to cover.

I met Richard Wurmbrand many years ago and had a profound discussion with him about the persecution he suffered under the Communist regime. He said it was more difficult to be a Christian in the United States due to the temptations toward materialism and wealth. He bore the physical scars on his body from being tortured by the Communists.
