A Prayer of St. Augustine link

Look upon us, O Lord,
and let all the darkness of our souls
vanish before the beams of thy brightness.
Fill us with holy love,
and open to us the treasures of thy wisdom.
All our desire is known unto thee,
therefore perfect what thou hast begun,
and what thy Spirit has awakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek thy face,
turn thy face unto us and show us thy glory.
Then shall our longing be satisfied,
and our peace shall be perfect.
Amen

A Prayer of St Augustine “Late Have I Loved You” Link

Late have I loved You, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved You!
You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for You.
In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created.
You were with me, but I was not with You. Created things kept me from You;
yet if they had not been in You they would have not been at all.
You called, You shouted, and You broke through my deafness.
You flashed, You shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed Your fragrance on me;
I drew in breath, and now I long for You. I have tasted You,
now I hunger and thirst for more. You touched me, and I burn for Your peace..”
Amen

Eternal God, the Refuge of All Your Children: Boniface (675-754 A.D.) link

Eternal God,
the refuge of all Your children,
in our weakness, You are our strength,
in our darkness our light,
in our sorrow our comfort and peace.
May we always live in Your presence,
and serve You in our daily lives,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

Trinitarian Blessing

May the love of the Father enfold us,
the wisdom of the + Son enlighten us,
the fire of the Spirit inflame us;
and may the blessing of the triune God rest on us,
and abide with us, now and evermore.
Amen

  1. Before my time, asking for God’s providence was part of faith. But it isn’t evangelical. We were slammed for mentioning the word “hope”. Artificial unintelligence (dumbing down and second guessing) is the direct implementation of the religious dominionism which arose in our time.

  2. I look at the southern border where some are refusing to give bottled water to pregnant women in this heat,
    and think of ‘artificial intel’

    ?

why not ‘let the ancient words impart’?

    “I thirst”

    and
‘if I am not for others, what am I?
    if not now, when ?

    ?

  3. christiane: I look at the southern border where some are refusing to give bottled water to pregnant women in this heat,

I wouldn’t wanna’ be in their shoes on Judgement Day for all the tea in China.

  4. Great talk by the way, from the two panelists on AI.
Dr. Zhao brings out some pressing issues and points:

What about the humans that are displaced and no longer needed because AI can do everything they do and do it better?
Granted, capital has never cared about labor, they are in the business of making money, and that’s it.
Makes me think of the scene in the first Alien movie where Ripley reads from the ship’s main computer:
    …all other considerations secondary
    …. crew expendable…

It wasn’t all that long ago when AI was the stuff of Sc-Fi.
Now it’s become a reality, albeit in its infancy.
But what happens when it matures, and God forbid, becomes self aware, and views humans as pesky rodents?

Frank Herbert, who I consider to be the greatest Sci-Fi writer of them all saw this coming back in 1965. I hope we can wake up in time.
