Dee’s Pending Trip to Italy to Study Historical Christianity Means Schedule Changes for Posts in the Next 3 Weeks

“Not all those who wander are lost.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring.

Once again, my husband and I have another Christian nerd bucket list trip planned to Italy to study how the church developed, split, and spread in that section of the world. I hope to learn more about how ancient churches visually represented women who participated in early church life and ministry. We will be traveling with a group of Christians involved in healthcare ministry and should have some good talks about our interests. We will eat pasta, seafood, and pizza while enjoying local vino! My diet will start after the trip.

We are blessed to have a couple from our church who will live at our house to care for the pugs and feed my backyard birds. They are a fantastic couple, and we, as well as the pugs, are so grateful.

Prayers/ sending good thoughts:

Please pray or think good thoughts for my 94-year-old mother, who is doing fine but remains exceptionally fragile. My two children who live in the area will check in on her. She is well cared for in Assisted Living, and I feel at peace currently.

  1. “I hope to learn more about how ancient churches visually represented women who participated in early church life and ministry.”

Wonderful. Looking forward to your shares. God bless. Enjoy.

  2. I couldn’t blame you if you just went dark while in Italy. I hope you enjoy the trip, learn a lot, and stay safe……. and bring back some photos to share with us!

  3. “My diet will start after the trip.”

I thought I was the only one who did that! Remember, you will be in a part of the world where the Mediterranean Diet originated, so stick with that. 🙂

Also, in case you didn’t know … ‘real’ pizza in Italy does not resemble the Americanized version.

I look forward to you setting us all straight on historical Christianity when you get back. Enjoy your study (and pizza)!

  4. Dee’s Pending Trip to Italy to Study Historical Christianity

You mean Christianity has a history between the Book of Acts (mythologized Golden Age Holy History) and God Revealing Himself to Our Founding Apostle to Restore the REAL New Testament Church (guess who)?
    Who’d a thunk it…

  5. Enjoy! I am curious which historical Christianity you will be studying? Currently I am on a deep dive into those groups that never became part of the RCC or Eastern churches. An overlooked part of the historical church.

  6. Be safe Deezers and come back to us safe and sound.
And if ya’ see him, say hi to Fr. Guido Sarducci.

  7. Buon viaggio, Dee & Bob – have a lovely time.

You may be surprised at how strong the Greek influence is in southern Italy. Even after the schism, for a couple of centuries the churches built there were architecturally more Byzantine than Roman, and the language of the area was Greek rather than Italian. It’s pretty fascinating.

Thanks again for all your work here, and for whatever you care to write about your trip.

    D.

  8. Dee, it’ll be difficult to pray for your trip because the sin of envy will be upon me. My wife and I were in Italy in March of 2011 and this is a nice time of year to visit. We got pretty familiar with Siena and Florence, and the art and architecture is unbelievable, and everywhere. Have a great trip.

  9. FreshGrace,

Thx for the wonderful link. I want to spend some time with this information. It’s encouraging. From the link:

“Christ gave women agency in an age when society did not. Their witness can give women today courage to step out in faith and obedience in the face of opposition.”

  10. You all are such nice people. One 5th-grade boy at church told me our church had many nice people. He is right. He would say the same about the good folks here.

I hope that little guy is always in a church like that! It’s been my observation after doing church in America for 70+ years that it is a mixture of nice people and some of the meanest people on the planet.
