Here is our Order of Worship

A Call to Worship link

God of Hope,
we come into your presence this morning
with confidence that you will meet us here.
Where there is sadness, bring joy;
Where there is tiredness, bring refreshment;
Where there is despair, bring a renewed sense of hope.
Let this place be a sanctuary,
a safe haven for us,
a home for holy words and songs and prayers
as we devote ourselves to you.
We pray this in Jesus’ name
Amen

Heavyhearted Prayer link

My heart is heavy.
Heavy like a bulky suitcase carried too long,
Heavy like the pressure at the bottom of the pool’s deep end,
Heavy like feet at the end of a long day’s walk,
Heavy like carrying bad news to a friend,

Lifter of the heavyhearted, hear my prayer.
Help me to remember the strength that first lifted
and bore the weight easily.
Help me to remember the sweet surrender of diving
and the adventure of going deep.

Help me to remember the lightness of step
at the beginning of a purposeful journey.
Help me to remember how even bad news
is endured together in love’s embrace.

You are the God of the heavyhearted and the lighthearted,
keep me near your heart this day.
Amen.

Scripture Reading:  Luke 22:24-34 (NASB Bible Gateway)

A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. You are those who have stood by me in my trials. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”

Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Matthew 6:9-13 link

Benediction

The Lord bless you, and keep you;

The Lord make His face shine on you,
And be gracious to you;

The Lord lift up His countenance on you,

And give you peace.

  1. This week has been a week of losses to the family of God. Billy Graham, what a legacy he leaves. Dee, her step-father, God be with her and the family. My husband lost a cousin this week to cancer. He was his favorite cousin. So beloved by all. I know there are countless others out there who have lost family members this week. The songs here today have ministered to me and I hope and pray they minister to you. After my dad died, a family member said that they wished dad could text us from Heaven and tell us what he saw and what it’s like. I’m sure most of us have thought something similar at times.

  2. Please pray for my Great-Aunt, my Dad’s friend and my Dad’s friend’s friend. The friend of my Dad’s friend is sick in the hospital and my Dad’s friend is burned out from being with him in the hospital for three days. Also, my Great-Aunt is facing the threat of potential illness as there is an influenza outbreak at her senior’s residence. Please pass this prayer request around at church at to any Wartburg Watch prayer warriors.

    Thank you very much!
