A Bit Out of Pocket

As many of you know, my dear daughter, Abby, had a large malignant brain tumor at the age of three. Her prognosis was terrible. On Friday, she will be graduating from Samford University with her degree in nursing and will embark on a career as an Emergency Room nurse. Please join my family in praising God for His mercy to our family. I have the posts prepared but may not be able to participate much in the discussion for a few days. I'll be spending a lot of time dancing and celebrating. However, my benign eye will be scanning…

  1. Congratulations! What a wonderful occasion. I hope you and Abby and your family have a great time.

  2. Dee,

From the bottom of my heart…congratulations!! To Abby…YOU ROCK!! Best wishes on your career.

  3. I will play Brahms’ “Academic Festival Overture”-OP.80 in Abby’s honor. As some of you may know, a bar or two towards the end of the finale was played when the Wizard of OZ gave Scarecrow his diploma.

  4. Dee – that is absolutely wonderful news. Congrats to Abby and to you and your hubby, and praise God for her healing….

  5. I can’t imagine the joy and pride you must be feeling! Have a wonderful weekend with your daughter. 🙂

  6. Dee,

Your daughter will make a wonderful nurse by virtue of the fact that she has experience that will give her empathy and wisdom. She knows comfort that she was given, and she knows triumph over illness through the hands of those who cared for her. She can comfort others with the comfort she received, and her good works will shine. A king’s ransom cannot buy such a gift that she can share with others. God bless her and you and your family, blessings to be shared through continued ministry. Congratulations.

  7. Congratulations and best wishes to your daughter and your family at this happy time.

  9. Congrats to Abby – and all of you!

Hoping that you have a wonderful celebration. I’ll even dance a step or two myself! 😀

  10. Dee,

Hope you and your family have a very special graduation weekend in Birmingham. Truly, it seems like just yesterday when your family came to visit Raleigh. I have fond memories of how my daughter gave Abby a tour of the Christian school they both graduated from. They were in middle school at the time. Also, your visitation day was when we first met. I guess it was “providential” that we become the best of friends. That was around 10 years ago. My how times flies…

So proud of Abby! She is truly a miracle, and I believe she will be a miracle worker in the lives of her patients as she embarks on a nursing career.

Thought I would let our readers know that my daughter has also earned her college degree. She blessed me on Mother’s Day by turning her tassel. Here she is with her fellow graduates at UNC-Chapel Hill. http://www.newsobserver.com/576

  11. Three cheers for Deb’s daughter, too! 😀

It’s graduation weekend at Penn State (near me), so the whole town is ridiculously crowded with kids celebrating and parents spending money on nice dinners.

  12. Nothing beats watching the kid pick up honors. We returned Monday from Lansing Mi, where we saw our son hooded and get his Ph.D. in Math, just two weeks past his 26th bday. He will be at Penn this fall on a postdoc for two – three years. And two expensive lunches, an expensive dinner, and the gas and motel for the 12-1300 mile trip each way. And the 1.5 extra hours driving for a detour because I-40 was blocked in Arkansas between Brinkley and Little Rock on our way back.
