Mozarbic Passion Prayer link

(The Mozarabs were Christians who lived in Spain under Islamic rule. The prayers in the Mozarabic Rite are free in style and substantial in meaning. Most of the prayers also seem to be very direct in presenting gospel content. They are also very consciously biblical. link)

Jesus, our Lord and our God,
you gave your cheek to those who struck you
and for our sake you endured much mockery.
Grant that following the example of your sufferings,
we may be courageous in bearing our own,
and learn from you,
for you are meek and lowly in heart;
you now reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen

A Mozarbic Collect: You Life Up Our Heads link

O Lord,
even though many say
there is no help for us in our God,
you are our defender.
You lift up our heads.
Increase our hope
and surround us with your perpetual mercy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Mozarbic 7th Century Prayer: Grant That We May Serve You link

You have freed us from evil
and strengthened us in what is good.
Grant that we may serve you,
our God and Lord.
Put away our sins.
Give joy to those who mourn.
Give freedom to the captive.
Give health to the sick.
Grant us peace and safety all our days,
and hold back the strength of our enemies.
Hear, O God,
the cry of all your faithful Christian servants
now and at all times,
for the sake of your Son
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God,
now and forever.
Amen

Colossians 1:9-12 NIV: For Sermon Application link

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you.
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will
through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,
10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way:
bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might
so that you may have great endurance and patience,
12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father,
who has qualified you
to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

A Celtic Blessing link

Deep peace of the Running Wave to you.
Deep peace of the Flowing Air to you.
Deep peace of the Quiet Earth to you.
Deep peace of the Shining Stars to you.
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you.
Amen

  1. Wade, thank you so much for your teaching on this passage of scripture. It did help my understanding of being spiritually pleasing to God in spite of our (sometimes) focus on our failures. The comparison of the lesson to that of Cadbury candy was nothing short of ingenious! Thanks again!
