Merry Christmas

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (NIV Bible Gateway)

Press a button and it says: "We are the Borg. Happy Holidays. Resistance is futile."
Proof that Dee is a bit dotty.

Deb and I are blessed this Christmas. The two of us are constantly telling our family and local friends of the wonderful, intelligent, funny, and theologically astute people who inhabit this blog. You have given meaning to this new season of our lives. Thank you for giving us the gift of your thoughts and your lives. You are never, ever taken for granted.

When we return, we will begin an occasional series on stories from SGM. Some of these are stories that have not yet been told in public. They are disturbing.  As SGM faces a looming lawsuit, we believe it is imperative that people, including the embarrassingly silent "Friends of CJ", understand precisely what was allegedly going on behind closed doors.

We will return on Wednesday. We hope you will enjoy these videos.

The first is a song that we heard spoken by Wade Burleson when we visited with him last year.

The second is a beautiful rendition of Once in Royal David's City performed at King's College in Cambridge.

Finally, I saw this first posted on Justin Taylor's blog . It is a humorous rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas by the University of Mobile. All science fiction fans should enjoy this.

  3. Seed of the woman…
    Promised from the beginning…
Promised to destroy the works of the Devil…

    How do I know?
    I don’t know.
    I have no rational proof.
My faith does not depend on apologists or what others write.
My faith is not even wholly based on the Bible.

    It is based on me.
The good news of Jesus in my own bones.
The truth of Jesus in my own viscera.

    Faith in Messiah.
    Hope in his very person.
It’s what I choose to believe.

Merry Christmas to all from Muff, Mrs. Muff,
    and the four-legged furry ones.

  9. Belted Cow

Thank you for a good laugh tonight. I particularly like the singing snowmen. “I’m gonna eat a candy cane; I’m gonna eat a popcorn ball!”

Merry Christmas. Tea at the Umstead in 2013!

  10. Merry Christmas everyone,

With 2/3 kids sick this year, we didn’t get out to church, so thanks for all the Christmas links Dee and Deb.

  11. Christmas greetings to Deb & Dee and all Wartburgees – thank you for all your contributions during the year. I’m grateful for and appreciative of the time and effort you fabulous lot all put in, especially that of the infinitely elegant and sophisticated chief blogesses who must steal time from somewhere I think. Happy Christmas cake munching and blog on…

  12. Kathy Hickey,

Jesus Christ came to set the captives free and the Calvinistas want to keep them in bondage. I am rejoicing in your newfound freedom. What a wonderful Christmas gift.

May you have a blessed New Year!

  13. Merry Christmas to one and all!

Dee, I hope Santa brought you a new sci-fi ornament or two – *love* the Borg cube!

  15. Wartburgees? Sounds like a hamburger. Greetings and salutations to all you TWWers! BTW, dee, what episode were you watching when God called you? I’m dying of curiosity. Merry Christmas to all, with Bread and Circuses. “It’s not the sun up in the sky, it’s the Son of God. And only now is the Word spreading.”

  16. Dee, Deb, and all my wonderful TWW friends:

I wish you a happy, jolly, merry Christmas!! Much love to all!!

from downunder, where it is high summer, but Sydney just had the wettest Christmas Day in 70 years.

May His Peace and Beauty enfold you

  19. Hi Loyal Wartburgers!

Thanks for all the wonderful Christmas greetings. They have really made my day special. :-)

    Lynne T,

Wow! The wettest Christmas Day in 70 years? How much rain did you get? Here in Raleigh, it was sunny and about 60 degrees – a lovely day.

    Heather,

I am honored that you would share your Glenlivet (which I had to look up) and fruitcake.

  20. It was only about an inch (t put it in American terms) which isn’t remarkable, but it just hasn’t happened on Christmas Day since 1942! The only wet Christmases I can remember were either just drizzly or a thunderstorm at the end of a hot day. But it’s Boxing Day now, and fine again, and we’re expecting a lovely 25C (77F)day tomorrow when we’re doing a tall ship cruise on Sydney Harbour. You’re welcome to share our leftover ham and cherries and watermelon ..

Yes Deb- God has used you and Dee and other Wartburg Watchers to also help set me free from those Calvinista freedom stealers. I am very thankful this Christmas season! Blessings to you!

  22. J. Terry,

Months before Dee and I started this blog, my pastor (former) preached through Galatians verse by verse. I soaked it up! Liberty, not legalism, is a true mark of Christianity.

So glad you are experiencing freedom in Christ!

  23. We joke that Zeta and I taught our children to think for themselves: conservative Catholic daughter; progressive liberal, evangelical son and daughter in law; moderately conservative other daughter; and young son shaping his thoughts now. The point is among our gifts for me-“A Year of Biblical Womanhood” and for Zeta two of Peter Enns defining books and as usual interesting discussion…

  24. During dinner it started snowing hard– the first real snow here we’ve had. I went outside to take daughter and her kids home, and toddler grandson said, “It Christmas! It Christmas!” His mom said something like “It HAS been a fun day” and grandson corrected, “No, Mommy, It REALLY Christmas now!”

  25. Late again. The 25th was a crazy busy work day here, and I didn’t get around to checking out this fabulous blog until this moment.

God Bless Dee and Deb and everyone here this holiday season. Greetings and warm wishes from Japan!

  26. Lynne T
Enjoy your wonderfull down under weather.I live in the Great white American north and we are singing let it snow…let it snow..let it snow,at the moment we are having a snow storm and I cannot even see the street from my front window…let snow..let it snow.
Merry Christmas and have a wonderful time with your family.

  27. I’m a day behind, but I hope that you had a very Merry Christmas with family and friends!

P.S. – Did all of you knitters or crafters get your Christmas gifts done in time? How many I.O.U.s did you have to gift?
