A Morning Prayer: from Apostolic Constitutions link

O God, who art faithful and true, who “hast mercy on thousands and ten thousands of them that love Thee,”
the lover of the humble, and the protector of the needy, of whom all things stand in need, f
or all things are subject to Thee; look down upon this Thy people,
who bow down their heads to Thee, and bless them with spiritual blessing.
“Keep them as the apple of an eye,” preserve them in piety and righteousness,
and vouchsafe them eternal life in Christ Jesus Thy beloved Son,
with whom glory, honour, and worship be to Thee and to the Holy Spirit, now and always,
and forever and ever.
Amen.

A Prayer of St Clement 1st century link

We ask you, Master, to be our helper and protector.
Save those among us who are in distress;
have mercy on the humble;
raise up the fallen;
show yourself to those in need;
heal the sick;
turn back those of your people who wander;
feed the hungry;
ransom our prisoners;
raise up the weak;
comfort the discouraged.
Let all the nations know that you are the only God,
that Jesus Christ is your servant,
and that we are your people and the sheep of your pasture.
Amen

Prayer of Confession from the Book of Common Prayer link

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will, and walk-in your ways, to the glory of your Name.
Amen

(Dee-Phillip Yancey and his writings have profoundly affected the way I think about the faith.)

Benediction of Jude 24-25 link

Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling
and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God,
our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority,
before all time and now and forever.
Amen.

  1. The words of Phillip Yancey are well worth your time. Suffering and Grace are not popular topics in today’s church. Yancey’s voice is a prophetic clarion for the church.
