Subtitle: Josh Duggar meets Joni Lamb.

The current scandal at Faith Life Church in New Albany, Ohio.

I am always grateful when a reader sends me information about issues we cover at TWW. This reader likened it to Josh Duggar meets Joni Lamb. Here is part of the email

Gary and Drenda Keesee are the husband/wife lead pastors at Faith Life in New Albany, Ohio. They’re uber wealthy and well connected. Drenda is also a county commissioner in Knox County, just north of the church. Most of the church leadership consists of their children. Youngest daughter, Kirsten, posted a message Apparently, she was a child SA victim of her brother, Tom, and her parents hushed it up. Tom has had access to the youth group and numerous SA victims are coming forward. Ohio Attorney General, Dave Yost, whom is about to be appointed to the senate seat vacated by JD Vance, is alleged to be keeping this SA case from seeing the light of day, due to his friendship with the Keesee’s.

The reader included this screenshot. I am sorry for the blurry image, which is my fault.

The family runs the church, and that is a problem when accusations of sex abuse within the family arise.

There are allegations that the parents hushed up the sexual abuse of their daughter by their son.

Today, the Christian Post published Tom Keesee, son of Faith Life Church founders, accused of sexually abusing sister, others.

Gary Thomas “Tom” Keesee, a son of Gary and Drenda Keesee, founders and senior pastors of Faith Life Church, a family-run, multi-campus megachurch in Ohio, is facing allegations of sexual abuse, including one from his sister, Kirsten McKinney.

In addition to being a son of the Faith Life Church founders, Tom Keesee is also the former chief media officer at the church, according to LinkedIn. He resigned from the position last August.

The church is also involved in DayStar programming, and Drenda is reportedly friends with Joni Lamb.

Here is a YouTube video titled BREAKING! Whistleblowers Expose Daystar Programmers Covering Family Predator on their Own Daughter.

The Ohio Attorney General is a friend of the family. Is that why the investigation stalled? The petition seemed to move things along.

Apparently, some claimed that the failure of the Ohio Attorney General, who is reportedly a friend of the family, interfered with the ability to investigate the accusations. So, a Change.Org petition was created.

DEMAND DAVE YOST CSA INVESTIGATION

Dave Yost has not assigned report number S-P2402390 to be investigated. This report is to bring justice to the victims of Gary Thomas Keesee for SA and abuse of minors.

His victims include his sister (who posted below) and girls under his influence in the church.

These victims deserve justice.

Dave Yost is allegedly blocking the investigation due to his relationship with Knox County Commissioner Drenda Keesee.

ASSIGN THE CASE, DAVE.

Kirsten Mckinney, the abuser’s youngest sister, addressed the concern in the petition. She believed that something was causing the investigation to stall.

Many are aware of allegations involving a family member. I was a victim, and when I learned of ongoing concerns for others’ safety in combination with other’s stories I already knew, I felt a responsibility to step forward. A private police investigation has been working on this case alongside other victims.

When the case was being escalated from our local Police detectives to the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), I decided to go on record, and my information was sent in as a victim for an official interview. The agency initially indicated they would assign a detective immediately and coordinated with the Police department to get my name and information. However, shortly after my information was submitted, I was informed that the BCI said they would not get involved with the case. No explanation was provided, and I was not given an opportunity to meet with anyone or share my account.

Given the facts of this case, I find it deeply concerning that the BCI is unwilling to hear from firsthand victims, despite law enforcement confirming there was sufficient evidence to proceed without my story. I also cannot ignore that my mother has a close political relationship with Attorney General Dave Yost. I do not know if this has had any impact on the decision, but it raises serious questions about the fairness and transparency of the process. Many individuals in law enforcement and government positions have also expressed confusion and frustration over why this case is not moving forward.

A close friend in law enforcement told me the case is being “blocked” due to “conflict of interest.” This is the second attempt to have this case placed that has been blocked due to an alleged conflict of interest. They will now attempt to move it to a third location, but there are concerns this might be a repeat pattern.

The petition attracted so much attention that, on 2/4/25, the case was added to the roster to be investigated. The petition attracted 2500 signatures.

The Columbus Dispatch posted Licking County to handle the New Albany megachurch sex abuse case after Dave Yost’s recusal. AG Yost admitted after the petition had attracted signatures:

Yost acknowledged on Feb. 1 a friendship with Keesee, whose son, Tom Keesee, is accused of the sexual abuse.

“The suspect’s parents are friends and have been to my home for dinner. My relationship with them meant that we could not credibly perform the investigation,” Yost wrote.

Yost claims that he could not credibly handle the case.

According to the Columbus Dispatch:

Yost explained in the post that if he agreed to investigate the church allegations, the credibility of the work would have been questioned “either by critics who claimed my friendship prevented a thorough investigation, or by defense counsel at trial, who would try to claim that I am overreacting and targeting his client to prove my integrity for political purposes.

The church attorney leaped into action, finally acknowledging the situation.

Katie Tabor, the church attorney, sent this statement to the Columbus Dispatch.

“We want to express our deepest compassion for those who have come forward and for anyone who has experienced harm. We recognize the courage it takes to speak out. We encourage anyone impacted to seek appropriate support and to report concerns to the proper authorities. We ask for prayers for all those affected and for our church family as we navigate this challenging time. We remain steadfast in our mission to serve with faith, love, and compassion.”

Dad made a statement.

The Christian Post published a statement by Pastor Gary Kreesee claiming the church does not condone abuse. Note the following statement.

“I’m not aware of anyone currently on this staff that has been accused of being involved with any type of this activity. Please make sure you know that. Please know that Drenda and I, our pastoral team has not been accused of anything. Our goal is to carry out the work that God has assigned us to do, and in that process, law enforcement will deal with anyone that may be guilty of such activity, and the innocent will be exonerated,” he said.

Did you catch it? He is not aware of anyone “currently on staff” who has been accused of sexual abuse. His son resigned last August.

There appear to be other victims besides Kirsten.

According to The Christian Post:

Among the other alleged victims is Olivia Wooten, who publicly revealed that she’s a survivor in response to McKinney’s disclosure.

…Olivia Wooten’s husband, Nathan Wooten, who is a former employee of Faith Life Church, also alleged in a statement on Facebook that Tom Keesee confessed to him more than a decade ago that he had sexually assaulted his wife while she was a minor.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, “accusers say there may be as many as 11 victims.”

What are we left with?

  • Mom and Dad are well-to-do and run a megachurch.
  • They are friends with Daystar’s Joni Lamb.
  • Their son, now a former employee, is alleged to have abused his sister.
  • There appear to be other victims.
  • The family has personal ties to the State Attorney General who may fill JD Vance’s Senate seat,
  • Mom and Dad appear to have protected their son from natural consequences.

Prediction

It appears the family tried to cover up their son’s alleged abuse. If so, they should step down from ministry. However, they won’t. Joni Lamb will stand by them, and people will leave their church.

The TWW reader had it right. This story is “Josh Duggar meets Joni Lamb.” They never seem to learn, and I fear that we will learn that this situation is worse than we can imagine. Folks should stay away from family-run churches. A church is not meant to be a cash cow for the pastors and their family. There is too much incentive to “cover up the problems. This practice should stop, but it won’t.

Jerome had it right.

“Avoid, as you would the plague, a clergyman who … has risen from poverty to wealth, from obscurity to a high position” Jerome.

So true: family run churches are something to be avoided. But praise God, these things are no longer being hidden in the dark. How the mighty have fallen! So many wolves under the sheepskins. If only, and I know I sound like a broken record, the people/congregation would just leave and take God’s money with them. Why give these people who don’t tell the truth, but suppress the Holy Spirit, even more money?!

Keep clear of these so called unaccountable churches and don’t reward them with even one penny.
Think critically if you can’t think spiritually.

Ian Docker: Think critically if you can’t think spiritually.

Problem is these days thinking critically and thinking spiritually are mutually exclusive.
“Spiritual Good, Physical Baaaaaaad” and all that.
Another aspect of Holy Nincompoop Syndrome, where the more stupid and ignorant you are, the more Spiritual you must be. (More Spiritual Than Thou in a race for the bottom.)

How long before they go with the Ancient Egyptian method of having their son marry their daughter (i.e. brother-sister) to make sure all that Money and Power STAY in the family, with no filthy outsiders marrying in? Or the Hapsburg Dynasty which despite no brother-sister (just a lot of cousin-cousin and uncle-niece) was even more genetically inbred?

1 correction – Dave Yost was not appointed to Vance’s vacant Senate seat, Lt Gov John Husted was. But it’s widely known that Yost wants to run for Ohio Governor in the next election.

Yost is also the Attorney General who downplayed the possibility of the 10-yr old from Ohio traveling to a neighboring state to get a termination after getting pregnant from being raped, w/o investigating first if the story was true.

Also, I believe I read somewhere that the case was accepted by a neighboring county to move forward.

Yes, see the more recent story about this “church” on The Roys Report. Licking County will take the case. Yost should not be investigating this case himself; his personal relationship with Tom Keesee’s parents presents a conflict of interest. But he should have requested that a neighboring jurisdiction take the case from the get-go; he shouldn’t have needed a petition with 2,500 signatures.

    Thanks Dee. Guess what?
Their Worship band is called “Open Heaven”.
Remember that Little Church of the Highlands Prayer Force Manual? You made note of item 7 on your list of fun facts where they claim Highlands has an Open Heaven over it . Open Heaven is a New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) “thing”. If you worship “right” God opens Heaven over you.

Note that Faith Life Church urges you to join the Dream team. Church of the Highlands urges folks to join the Dream Team. ARC churches have Dream Teams.

Faith Life Church has a big Serve Day where everyone wears a tee that says SERVE.

Under the recommended books: Servolution by Dino Rizzo.

No church, no church, no church but an ARC has likely ever suggested any church member read a book by Dino Rizzo.

What do you want to bet that the Lodge gets new guests?

    And by the way –
Reddit brought it to our attention that Dino took 87 percent of contributions in 2019 of Servolution, his non-profit. He took nearly 300k for working 30 hours a week. The tax form is available to the public.

A Reddit post in “All About ARC” also noted that they had no idea they were in an ARC affiliate until after they left that church. I wouldn’t flaunt that either.

    You are welcome.

I’ve been to that church on three separate occasions for event prepping and serving. All three times there was a Licking County Sheriff’s deputy working the front desk. Anytime the doors are unlocked they have an off-duty deputy doing security. My concern with Licking County picking up the investigation, in coordination with Knox County, is that there’s a potential conflict of interest. Yost pulled the conflict card for having dinner with the Keesee’s but how many Licking County officers have received a paycheck from FLC? It’s gravy security and a good way to pickup extra money for little work. I talked to these guys,it’s not conspiracy. It’s unusual for neighboring counties to share an investigation in cases where there’s a conflict of interest because they’re usually well acquainted with the cast of characters. I don’t know Randy Thorpe, the Licking County Sheriff, but I hope he does the right thing for these victims.

A lot of megas do this; hire off-duty cops to moonlight as Security – and Pastor’s Personal Enforcers. Creampuff job for the cops, especially if they are members of the Church with special Inner Ring privileges.

And that one wife-beating ManaGAWD from years ago who moonlighted as a Police Chaplain.
Code of Blue – Cop will always side with Cop against Not-Cop, and ManaGAWD makes sure that HE’s on the Cop side of the divide (and you’re NOT)

And it doesn’t stop at he cop level. Always good to have Friends in High Places like the Police Chief or D.A. who can quash any investigation. Remember Jim-Bob Duggar’s influence when Little Josh was banging his underage sisters? Megapstor Superapostle can be a regular Boss Hogg behind the pious surface. Touch Not Mine Anointed.

Which I learned in RCIA (RCC catechism class). Specifically, the Church didn’t want priests and bishops setting up family dynasties. (Given what happened between the EO spltting off and Luther posting his 96, a lot of high Church officials made a lot of attempts at it using whatever loopholes they could find, but this was NEVER official policy.)

Also remember this rule dates from an era when all Political Power and entire kingdoms were inherited as Personal/Family Property.

Just horrible to have your parents or your church cover up sexual abuse, but to have law enforcement up to the state AG complicit is just awful.

What I’m confused about though, is if the state AG won’t investigate, what good does it do to transfer the case to a different county? And why isn’t there an alternative if the state AG has a conflict of interest? That is common enough that there must be some mechanism. He’s right to recuse himself, but not to block the case. Does the federal government step in or is there some state mechanism for an alternative track (special counsel sort of thing)?

Hi Dee. You have trained me in discernment since the ARC/Prayer Force Manual/ Restoration ministry of ARC and Chris Hodges.

I have started looking at the website of any megachurch that has a sex crime or sex scandal. What I look for first is to see if the church is: Charismatic (I am not anti-spiritual gifts BTW), absence of a clear statement of faith, pastored by husband and wife, has mention of key words like Freedom Class, SERVE TEAM, SERVE DAY, DREAM TEAM, and the most obvious, mention that they are part of the Association of Related Churches (ARC). It was brought to my attention a few months ago, however, from a post on Reddit, that some churches in ARC do not give any indication they are affiliated with ARC. Little wonder.

So in perusing Faith Life Church website, guess what. YEP! Dream Team, SERVE DAY (all wearing the mandatory tee shirt for photo ops) and under the recommended reading section was none other than ARC president (and associate pastor of Church of the Highlands) Dino Rizzo’s book, Servolution. I promise you, no church that isn’t ARC would ever recommend a Dino Rizzo book. And just for the record – reddit also pointed to the 2019 tax for submitted by Servolution. The non-profit had a single employee, Dino Rizzo, who took in $276,500 working 30 hours a week. That was 87 percent of the $318,049 contributions.

that comes to $23,000 per month (in addition to his Church of the Highlands salary) asking people to serve for free.

    Totally off topic prayer request:

We have major cold and snow coming our way, which sometimes makes it hard for us to access the firewo!od. We also have a propane furnace.

We prepay for our propane. I need a load delivered, called it in so it should arrive before the storm, but so far no propane truck.

Not something that will matter in eternity, but we would feel a whole lot more secure if we could get the propane we already bought actually delivered before the storm!

Unfortunately flu and covid and norovirus and rsv and a nasty cold have everyone running short handed here, with many schools just now opening again after closing for illness.

    Prayers appreciated!

Finally something is happening. I was staff there for a year. Now that the SA scandals have brought this public ally and many of us are reconnecting. We are pursuing cases in addition to the SA investigation . They collected millions for a building project that doesn’t exist- and neither does the money. I hope they get jail sentences, just like Todd Coontz, for three reasons – justice for the victims, putting a STOP to the frauds and abuses, and because jail may be the mercy of God to them if they open their eyes to repent before it really is too late.
