‘A Christmas Prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson link
Loving Father, Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake.
Amen.
St. Augustine of Hippo – AD 354-440 link
Let the just rejoice,
for their justifier is born.
Let the sick and infirm rejoice,
For their saviour is born.
Let the captives rejoice,
For their Redeemer is born.
Let slaves rejoice,
for their Master is born.
Let free men rejoice,
For their Liberator is born.
Let All Christians rejoice,
For Jesus Christ is born.
Amen
Liturgy of the Hours, Fridays in Advent link
All-powerful God,
help us to look forward in hope
to the coming of our Savior.
May we live as he taught,
ready to welcome him with burning love and faith.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen
Benediction link
Go into the world with assurance, hope and promise:
the grace of the Word of life rest upon you;
the love of the Source of life embrace you;
and the transforming power of the Breath of life
help, strengthen and surprise you,
this day and all your days.
Amen.
Listening to NT Wright just now on whether the birth narrative of Jesus is historically accurate.
His learned, fatherly bluster is revealing, and way over-cooked.
It’s mythology.
It’s an inspirational form of fiction, valid in its own way, but still fictional.
I would smile and let it go — except I believe it’s not harmless.
It’s a kind of gaslighting that I have seen all my life.
Insisting that fiction is fact is a phase of spiritual abuse.
I wish we could be braver about actual truth versus desired truth.

Thank you, Dee. Always love to hear N.T. Wright. And, I don’t think I have ever heard that song – The Canticle of the Turning. I loved it!
Happy New Year to all TWW

God rest Jimmy Carter.
He was the real deal.
He was the real McCoy.

Jimmy Carter and NT Wright are both Christian and both celebrated Christmas. Works for me.

Godith,
I’m notorious for not following every jot and tittle.
