“We have a strange illusion that mere time cancels sin. But mere time does nothing either to the fact or to the guilt of a sin.” CS Lewis
I hope to talk about a pedophile running around a 9 Marks church next Monday or Wednesday. There are other stories percolating, keeping us busy.
In May 2024, I wrote The Falls Church Anglican Found Out They Had an Abuser Named Jeff Taylor. They Didn’t Do Much. Parents and Pastors: Time to Wise Up! I reported that an Independent Report by Attorney Edward Isler(who shares an office with Gammon and Gage who I believe was an Attorney in the Sovereign Grace Ministries/Churches situation) demonstrated that the church did little to investigate or inform the church congregation of the reports of abuse by one of their former pastors, Jeff Taylor. I reviewed the report and discussed various sections of the report. Here are my conclusions.
Here is what I believe was the actual conclusion for Pastor Yates, the subsequent Pastor Ferguson, the leaders, and the parents:
- All were naive.
- The pastors and leaders were deliberately stupid and held their hands over their eyes and ears while singing “la, la, la” to avoid receiving anything awkward,
- Failing to supervise a staffer who had access to minor children for years was a dereliction of duty.
- The leaders and pastors were derelict in their duty to report this to law enforcement because it was the right thing to do. The police would have had reports on file if more accusations came up in the future, as they did for Taylor. This is how the system works. I routinely advise families and churches to do this as a minimum.
- When parents learned that adults were not welcome in the Cornerstone activities, they should have immediately demanded to attend to see what was happening. I do not recommend that parents dump their kids off for talks that the parents aren’t supposed to hear. Remember, I blame myself in this category.
- The leaders should have held Yates’ feet to the fire when they realized supervision was lacking. Oh, they didn’t know that? They should have. Where were the church leaders?
- I must admit that I find it problematic that no one knew anything about what was happening. Indeed, they heard of the discussions on masturbation. Didn’t anyone realize that this was weird, or were they so into the purity movement that they thought this was normal and advisable?
- Every church and organization that had Taylor involved must conduct a real investigation, not one “to protect the church.” It’s time the church started acting like the church by doing the right thing, even when it’s hard.
- Everyone should support Rev. Dr. Porter Taylor’s petition. Involved churches should contact him to get his thoughts on protecting their kids.
- Parents: abusers are clever, and they will worm their way into your hearts. It happened at my church. When Goodrich was being tried, some deceived moms begged the judge to let them “mentor Goodrich.” They loved the guy, and he had them right where he wanted them. Protect your students. Supervise them and be careful when someone starts paying lots of attention to them. Red flags should be waving.
- My heart goes out to the victims. One victim died, most likely because he was abused. This happens to victims of abuse. If any victim wants to tell their story, please get in touch with me at dee@thewartburgwatch.com. I would be happy to print it.
The Roys Report posted Report: Prominent Anglican Church Failed to Investigate or Inform Congregation of Sexual Abuse Involving Former Pastor, which reached similar conclusions.
Isler Dare represents companies in employment matters like discrimination and harassment claims and advises on HR matters. But Isler, the attorney investigator, told TRR that church leaders were not permitted to edit the report and asked him to reveal the truth.
Isler wrote in his report that a key finding was how Taylor’s success in youth ministry “blurred” the vision of church leaders.
“The recommendation here is simple,” the report stated. “Even the Church’s most successful leaders need to be asked hard questions, for the benefit of the leader’s own sanctification, as well as for the benefit and protection of those to whom they seek to minister.”
I was asked to stress the Cornerstone Connect Reddit group, which has 147 members.
According to their site description:
A forum for updates, links, resources, and reconnection. For former students of Cornerstone and The Falls Church Episcopal. Anonymity is completely acceptable, though not required. Admin is a former student. This subreddit has zero affiliation with The Falls Church Anglican or any religious body of any kind. We affirm all walks of life, religious or non-religious endeavors, and sexual identities. Please act with kindness. TW: sexual abuse and religious trauma
The Roys Report said:
An 85-member Reddit page called CornerstoneConnect has disputed some details in the investigation, particularly whether Taylor’s employers did enough to respond to disclosures over the years.
Michael Waidmann, who grew up at TFCA in the 1990s, noted the investigation mentioned two additional men at TFCA—a former associate rector and volunteer youth leader—who also abused people in their care. Waidmann, who declined to participate in the investigation, said the report didn’t do enough to examine TFCA’s culture.
“What I want our church to consider and other churches, is what makes a place like The Falls Church Anglican a magnet to predators?” Waidmann said.
An example of one entry: The church appears ready to pay for counseling.
They are also keeping track of Jeff Taylor’s current whereabouts.
Jeff Taylor worked at The Red Cross, too.
It is hard to believe that this man is still free.
Finally,
Anglican Watch is reporting that Jeff Taylor, the abuser, is now under investigation by the FBI. I can only hope that this is true and that arrests will be made in the matter.
For those interested in following the history of the ACNA problems, including abuse and coverup in the denomination, please listen to the Wall of Silence podcast. Rumor has it that the denomination has asked that further podcasts be held by the denomination. Let’s see who wins this one. Hey ACNA, what a way to help people time being. It might cause me to think you are guilty! What is going on in ACNA?

Not quite at the same level, but Mark Booker came from ANCA before going to PSC. And he served under this guy:

It does seem like ANCA has a problem with narcissistic, prideful leadership.

Dee – Keep going with the good work!
The current Rector of The Falls Church Anglican, Rev Sam Ferguson, recently spoke in Cairo, Egypt, explaining his conservative viewpoint on sexuality and gender. Definitely worth a look. It is at this link https://www.youtube.com/live/OgHyXmEeuN0 Starts at 1:02:20 and runs to 1:59:30.

Churches providing cover for predators seems to be systemic.
Predatory church leaders have their fellow clergy BFFs, their elders, their boards, their dudebros and their fan-gals groomed and always ready to defend even criminal behavior, all with a proper theology teaching. Then the rest of everyone simply falls in line.
Dee, did you have any idea that predatory clergy was happening so broadly, up and down the ranks, so often, with so much cover, so much damage, so common, when you started publishing TWW? It seems this whole situation has not yet crested … every day more stuff going on for DECADES is exposed.
This is not new. What’s new is exposure, discovery, and revelation. The printing press brought the Bible to the masses. The Internet elevates testimonials to the global audience: the good, the bad, and the really ugly. A person can hog the microphone in the room but not on the Internet. They can run away and pop up elsewhere to reinvent but the Internet keeps the record.
TWW publishes. Along comes lawyers, insurance companies, LE, mainstream press, the DOJ, and many more testimonies. Not necessarily in that order.
Do church boards really want to pay big $$$ for liability insurance and pay big $$$ for legal proceedings for their beloved predatory clergy, as their wind their way through the Courts, the press, and the criminal justice system?
We’ve only just begun.

Why are some clergy and some faith groups so obsessed with human sexuality?
Notice: Undefined variable: button in /home/guswo2wr8yyv/public_html/tww2/wp-content/plugins/quote-comments/quote-comments.php on line 127
1. It’s basic human desire.
2. It involves basic human relationship from the get-go, Adam and Eve.
3. It involves tremendous consequences, the creation of a human person. (Which even famed theologian and admired clergyman Iain Campbell disregarded as it says on wikipedia that he has 3+ “possible” children.)
4. Violation of a person sexually does enormous damage; murder is worse but not by much.
5. Nowadays, human sexuality and gender are grand issues in law, employment, schools, sports, medicine, and psychology. There’s birth, orientation, dysphoria, preference, trans, bi, etc. All sorts of issues going on.
There’s nothing lightweight, simple, or casual about human sexuality.
Churches and Christians, however, have traditionally been quite simple minded about human sexuality. The Pure Culture and the Grace Culture are two extremes, and two examples of blatant simple minded foolish ignorance.
We can do better.

The Falls Church Anglican (TFCA) has posted their communications related to the church’s response to abuse allegationson their website.
https://www.tfcanglican.org/archive-of-letters
Apparently on June 18th they sent out an announcement to their congregation asserting that while the church does not have non-disclosure agreements….they do have confidentiality clauses in many of their employee contracts and separation agreements. What!!!???…is up with that?! They go on to say these clauses are for “protecting the privacy of parishioners”. Really? Very interesting, because then it states that they are lifting these confidentiality obligations so that people can come forward with information related to the current investigation underway….EXCEPT not lifting the confidentially obligations related to protecting parishioners….so what were the terms of the agreements they lifted? I would LOVE to know the answer to THAT question.
Well thanks a bunch TFCA leadership! You started this investigation in the fall of 2023, released a report over two months ago (in April 2024) and NOW in June 2024 you are deciding to give people permission to come forward with information related to the investigation. Does this strike anyone else as ridiculous? Does this sound like a church whose leadership is actively encouraging people to come forward with information from the get go? No….and I wonder why.
Below is the link to their June 18th announcement:

Ava Aaronson,
Well said Ava, and I concur.
Especially about the extremes on both sides of the issue.

Because they are as screwed-up sexually as everybody else; they just show it in a completely-different (and usually opposite) direction.
Notice: Undefined variable: button in /home/guswo2wr8yyv/public_html/tww2/wp-content/plugins/quote-comments/quote-comments.php on line 127
And the only reason TFCA announced the partial waiver is because an audience member asked why TFCA was using these agreements at a June 2, 2024 public meeting on the investigation. Prior to that, no one knew TFCA was using these confidentiality agreements with former staff. Had that question not been asked publicly, the confidentiality agreements would never have been discovered. Kind of like many other secrets at TFCA…kind of like had the parents not gone to the Bishop in 2023, we would not know about this entire situation. Patterns, people. Patterns.
The Truth Would Be Nice,

Another Texas megachurch pastor has been fired. Stonebriar Church in Frisco TX just fired their pastor, Tony Cammarota, for an unspecified “moral failure.”
The church leadership sent a vague letter to their congregation, informing them of Cammarota’s firing and warning the members not to talk about it.
The letter used typical megachurch-style manipulative language and gaslighting techniques, telling members of the congregation that they would be giving evil a foothold in the church if they publicly discussed the pastor’s firing.

I suppose Stonebriar church leaders also warned the congregation to stay off the Internet and not read evil watchblogs.
Robert Morris was apparently concerned that church members would learn too much about him if they cruised the Internet looking for information, when he said:
“I have to say this, um, I’m really concerned about how much time people spend on the Internet. I’m extremely concerned about it. Extremely concerned about it. Here’s one thing, just even the blogs that mention Christian leaders, and I’m one of ’em. Praise the Lord, I’ve made Satan’s hit list now, you know. But here’s what blows me away. You wouldn’t listen to gossip, but you’ll read it”
Informing and warning the Body of Christ is not gossip. Trying to control what believers hear through manipulation, intimidation, and domination is not the work of the Holy Spirit. Discussing failures of church leaders within the membership is not gossip; the congregation will be reeling from this announcement and need to process this news together unfiltered by what church leaders say.

I guess the bit in the Bible about elders being rebuked publicly for their sin is never discussed.

Certain ACNA denominational leaders would like the Wall of Silence podcast eliminated; they seem not appreciative of the light shining on the ACNAtoo stories. Since clergy vow obedience to their bishop (bishops vow obedience to the archbishop), there are consequences that could happen.
According to the Assembly Reports, Bp Atwood is transitioning and will be helping to form a new diocese for people coming out of a Muslim background. What could go wrong???

Exactly. Making information public is the way to see the patterns. Attempts by leaders to silence via coercion and cover up what happened is fairly common. They don’t want us to see the patterns. We’ve already identified some.

Hi. I can’t seem to comment on the first article you wrote, but there was a commenter calling themselves through a glass darkly, who said that a teen boy at the church was caught abusing a little girl that he babysat, and that Yates said they couldn’t call the police. I can tell by events the commenter referenced that this was the 90’s.
I went to Columbia Baptist and Allen Wilson was our youth pastor, and he loved Jeff Taylor and talked to our youth group that the Cornerstone youth group was our sister youth group: 1994 and 1995 he promoted all the Falls Church events and tried to get us to go.
During the summer of 1994 a teen boy named Tom, a sophomore or junior, came to our youth group camp, did things that made me feel uncomfortable around him, and at the end of the week stood up at the trauma bonding bonfire Columbia did every year and told us all he’d been victimized and wrongly accused of molesting a little girl at his church. I saw no reason to think that anyone investigated this, he attended Columbia Baptist from that point on. I can’t help but wonder if this is the kid from Falls Church. His sister worked in the nursery at Columbia Baptist, and people treated this like it was a good thing that he was welcomed with open arms.

Muff Potter,
At the risk of sounding pedantic, it depends on what you mean by “obsessed.” Sexuality and sexual expression are a BIG deal, and if God made our bodies and made us for relationship, then he ought to (and does) have something to say about appropriate sexuality. So, talking about sexuality and relationship, even talking about it a lot, is in the purview of a biblically grounded ministry in a world of sexual dysfunction.

Reminds me of this exchange between two female talk-radio hosts (“Kerri and SHeri”?) I heard back in the mid-Nineties:
K: So this guy wants to get a sex change {transition into a woman].
S: Yes.
K: So he can live as a Lesbian.
S. Yes.
K Anyone have Jerry Springer on speed-dial?
