A Call to Worship link

God of Hope,
we come into your presence this morning
with confidence that you will meet us here.
Where there is sadness, bring joy;
Where there is tiredness, bring refreshment;
Where there is despair, bring a renewed sense of hope.
Let this place be a sanctuary,
a safe haven for us,
a home for holy words and songs and prayers
as we devote ourselves to you.
We pray this in Jesus’ name
Amen

Prayer for the Poor and Neglected from The Book of Common Prayer link

Almighty and most merciful God,
we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget:
the homeless and the destitute,
the old and the sick,
and all who have none to care for them.
Help us to heal those who are broken in body or spirit,
and to turn their sorrow into joy.
Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son,
who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Matt Lohman delivered an inspiring message last week at Emmanuel Enid. Matt serves as the CEO of Hope Outreach Ministry in Enid, Oklahoma. The mission of this ministry is to empower people to responsible living. When interviewed by the Enid News, Matt explained: “We try not to give people a hand out, but a hand up.’’

The organization has five specific ministries designed to help families or individuals with their needs: (1) Parenting Ministry (2) Homeless Ministry(3) Community Care (4) Transitional Housing (5) Retail Ministry

You are the God who calls us to be
a chosen people, a living sacrifice, a holy nation.
You are the God who calls us to be
a light in this world, a faithful people, a people of praise.
You are the God who forgives and restores us,
You are the God we serve.
Amen

Phillippians 4:6-7 NASB (Bible Gateway)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Amen.

  1. Matt Lohman, CEO of Hope Outreach Ministry, Enid, Oklahoma, thank you for explaining what you do and tying it to Scripture. Excellent.

    A note about your presentation, reflecting on giving to the church, as in tithing to the institutional church:

    For some regular attenders to church, what they may bring, also, is emotional support, elbow grease, technical expertise, or even their spiritual gifts. They may not have cash to tithe to the church, just as Hope Outreach may not give cash to requesting individuals and families.
