Tonight, we are saddened to announce the passing of Michael Spencer. The Internet Monk, as he was known, was an institution in the blogosphere. His insights into the practice of Christianity were unique, thought-provoking, at times humorous, and indicative of his own abiding faith in our Lord. Please pray for his family. And, while you’re at it, read some of his posts through the years. We guarantee that you will join us in thinking the earth abiding Christian community has lost, for now, a keen observer and communicator.

Thank You
Dee and I took a leap of faith back in March 2009 when we launched The Wartburg Watch after talking about it for at least two years! We would often mention our blog concept to family and friends, and I doubt they took us very seriously. To be absolutely honest, I didn’t think this faith watch blog would ever become a reality. Why? Because I didn’t believe there would be that much to write about in the community of faith. Was I wrong!!!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Michael Spencer, the Internet Monk, who is recuperating from surgery to remove a brain tumor.
Welcome to our new blog format. Over the next few weeks we will be developing all of the categories, search helps, and a few permanent pages that should help some of our new readers understand our “invented here” terms such as Calvinista, boutique seminary, and redneck theology. We are open to suggestions for the format and items that you, our dear readers, might find helpful. Thank you for your patience with these two “technopeasants” as we muddle through setting this up.

A message to ..well, you know who you are: Lay off the teenagers who were hurt-either by the pedophile or by living through the pain. Haven’t they been hurt enough? Can you believe it? The internet turned 40 YESTERDAY!!!
On October 29, 1969, the first ever message was sent between two computers 400 miles apart. One computer was located at the University of California, Los Angeles and the other was at the Stanford Research Institute. The one word message to be sent via "ARPANET" was "Login". Only the L and the O were transmitted, then the system CRASHED!!!
Here's a great trivia question: What was the first word ever sent via the internet? The answer: "LO".
To learn more about the very beginnings of the internet, we have included some information we found at the following link:

“The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.”
Lord of the Rings

Are you sitting in your church thinking that something is amiss? Do you think you are the only one who feels this way? Did you try to express your concerns to your pastor? Did he claim you are the only one who has come to him regarding this matter? Did he seem annoyed that you are questioning him? Did he make you feel like you had done something unbiblical by speaking with him?
