Tom Rich: Mac Brunson, A.Davis, M. Driscoll-When Church Leaders “Gossip and Slander”

“False greatness is unsociable and remote: conscious of its own frailty, it hides, or at least averts its face, and reveals itself only enough to create an illusion and not be recognized as the meanness that it really is. True greatness is free, kind, familiar and popular; it lets itself be touched and handled, it loses nothing by being seen at close quarters; the better one knows it, the more one admires it.”    Jean de la Bruyere

Spiritual Abuse Recovery: Blogs Are a Key Resource

36% of subjects in Orlowski's study said that it was essential to participate in blogs to assist in recovery from spiritual abuse     (p.172)           True confession: I love to read the acknowledgment page in books. I particularly enjoy reading about the people who assisted and supported an author in the writing of a book. In order to find subjects for her study, Barbara Orlowski contacted blogs that focused on the myriad of issues that involve spiritual abuse. On the acknowledgement page of Spiritual Abuse Recovery, she lists, and thanks, no less than 29 blogs for their assistance. 29 blogs which discuss spiritual abuse?!! Good night!   What is even more surprising is that none of the blogs, with which we at TWW are currently familiar, are listed. This could mean that, since Orlowski’s research was completed, the problem of spiritual abuse is either growing,  becoming more well known, or being talked about more openly.   Another factor that may be contributing to the growth of this phenomenon is that more people are becoming Internet savvy and are willing to brave the technology to start blogs. That is certainly the case for your technopeasant, yet always glamorous, Continue reading →

TWW’s Top Ten for 2010

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1-NIV)         As we bid adieu to 2010, we want to highlight what we consider to be our TOP TEN posts. Each of these articles garnered considerable commentary, and we are extremely grateful to our fantastic readers. It’s your loyalty that motivates us to “dig deep” into important spiritual matters and then share our findings and opinions with you.   We will work our way up to the #1 post for 2010 and then throw in a few “honorable mentions”.   Here we go… 10. Sisterhood of the Stay-At-Home Daughters-link This is a HOT BUTTON issue here at TWW. Just today we discovered important information and new websites (to us) on this topic, and you can rest assured that we will be investigating this trend further in the New Year.   9. Al Mohler: Intellectual Visionary or Pseudo-Intellectual Legalist?- link Al Mohler has been in the spotlight since the “New Calvinists” came into vogue, most recently appearing on the Continue reading →

FBC Jacksonville Blogger Wins Round One!

It is more to the honor of a Christian by faith to overcome the world, than by monastical vows to retreat from it; more for the honor of Christ to serve him in the city, than to serve him in the cell.  Matthew Henry   BREAKING NEWS   We interrupt our series on creation to bring our readers news of a very positive development in the FBcjaxwatchdog's suit against the city of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville's Sheriff's Office and the Florida Assistant State Attorney's office. We will conclude our series on Monday with The Flintstone Doctrine so stay tuned.   To read the history of this historic case, please click on the FBC Jacksonville, Mac Brunson  and Tom Rich categories to read our extensive review of this travesty against the First Amendment. Tom began an anonymous blog which was critical of his church, FBC Jacksonville, and its richly compensated pastor, Mac Brunson. It appears to this blogger that the legal entities, which were first contacted by Brunson associates, trampled on Rich's right to remain anonymous. These entities outed his name with questionable subpoenas. Then they gave Tom Rich's name to the church which resulted in Rich and his family being booted from Continue reading →
