Instead they found transplanted, American-Christian styled churches,  the only difference being that Spanish was spoken. The music, the curriculum, the governing style were clones of the American church. She said it was like "watching the Dukes of Hazard dubbed into Spanish."   Evangelicalism has been present in Guatemala for over 100 years. Supposedly there are Latin American, national pastors. Have you heard about the “new atheists”? Why new, you ask, haven’t they always been around? Surely you remember Madalyn Murray O’Hair and her success in getting prayer banished from the public square?   To paraphrase a bit from a political debate, Richard Dawkins ain’t no Madalyn O’Hair. These folks don’t strongly disagree with faith. They actually believe that it is “child abuse” to introduce one’s offspring to faith. They claim that religion is to blame for ALL of the wars and conflicts throughout history! Do you think we are exaggerating? Recently, one of us engaged in a debate with a committed atheist. He claimed that, in the last century, most of the wars were caused by religion. He was confronted with the fact that communism and fascism, both known to be anti-religious, were in the forefront of the conflicts of most of the wars of the last century.
