Prayer: At the Beginning of the Day link

O God,
I find myself at the beginning of another day.
I do not know what it will bring.
Please help me to be ready for whatever it may be.

If I am to stand up, help me to stand bravely.
If I am to sit still, help me to sit quietly.
If I am to lie low, help me to do it patiently.
If I am to do nothing, let me do it gallantly.

I pray just for today, for these twenty-four hours,
for the ability to cooperate with others according to the way Jesus taught us to live.
“Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
May these words that he taught us become more than words.

Please free my thinking and feelings and the thinking and feelings of others,
from all forms of self-will, self-centeredness, dishonesty, and deception.
Along with my brothers and sisters,
I need this freedom to make my choices today according to your desires.
Send your Spirit to inspire me in time of doubt and indecision
so that, together, we can walk along your path.
Amen

Prayer of Confession link

Marvelous and merciful God,
Your Son modeled leadership and servanthood for us.
But we confess we have elevated our desires and plans
over Your will for our lives and for Your world.
We want authority and power over others to use for our own purposes.
Forgive us for our half-hearted devotion and our double-minded attention to Your way.
Remind us You desire servants first and foremost.
Enable us to serve in the name of Jesus,
the One who came to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.
In His name we pray.
Amen.

Clement of Rome (1st century) link

We beseech thee, Master,
to be our helper and protector.
Save the afflicted among us;
have mercy on the lowly;
raise up the fallen;
appear to the needy; heal the ungodly;
restore the wanderers of thy people;
feed the hungry; ransom our prisoners;
raise up the sick; comfort the faint-hearted.
Amen

Colossians 1:1-8 NIV

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters[a] in Christ:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father.
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus
and of the love you have for all God’s people—
the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven
and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel
that has come to you. In the same way,
the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—
just as it has been doing among you since the day
you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.
You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant,
who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf,
and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

Irish Benediction link

May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine on your windowpane.
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
Amen
