A Prayer by Martin Luther link

Almighty God, the Protector of all who trust in you,
without whose grace nothing is strong, nothing is holy,
increase and multiply on us your mercy
that through your holy inspiration we may think the things that are right
and by your power may carry them out, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

A Moravian Prayer link

Creator of the heavens and earth, praise be to your holy name.
We pray that the gracious ways of heaven may be made real in the world that we inhabit.
We hunger for much more than food today, and we pray that you will satisfy us, and all who have need.
We are awed by your forgiving nature, and pray that you would inspire us to forgive each other in like manner.
While we know that you have created us to be holy,
we ask that you keep us from the temptation of living a life which would tarnish your image within us.
You have created a world that is holy, and your glory and power are displayed in many wonderful ways;
may we give thanks for your blessings all the days our lives, even as we live into eternity.
Amen

Tribute to Caesar

The scribes and the chief priests tried to lay hands on Him that very hour, and they feared the people; for they understood that He spoke this parable against them. So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, in order that they might catch Him in some statement, so that they could deliver Him to the rule and the authority of the governor. They questioned Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You speak and teach correctly, and You are not partial to any, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” But He detected their trickery and said to them, “Show Me a denarius. Whose likeness and inscription does it have?” They said, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were unable to catch Him in a saying in the presence of the people; and being amazed at His answer, they became silent.

A Prayer by Benedict link

Gracious and Holy Father,
Please give me:
intellect to understand you,
reason to discern you,
diligence to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
a spirit to know you,
a heart to meditate upon you,
ears to hear you,
eyes to to see you,
a tongue to proclaim you,
a way of life pleasing to you,
patience to wait for you
and perseverance to look for you.

Grant me a perfect end,
your holy presence,
a blessed resurrection
and life everlasting.
Amen.

A Moravian Benediction link

And now unto the God who is able to keep you from falling,
and to present you as holy before the throne of grace with exceeding joy,
To the only wise God, our Savior, be glory and majesty,
dominion and power, both now and ever.
Amen

  1. Multiple prayer requests in this situation: My friend flew to India a couple of weeks ago to visit his mother who was in poor health.

    1. Pray for him as he confronts both his mom’s illness and cultural expectations. He’s trying to live in two vastly different worlds right now.

    2. Pray for his wife and kids who miss him. In his absence each one of his kids have experienced something negative due to ethnicity/culture. Pray for me as I plan to address at least one of these situations in his absence.

    3. Pray that God’s love will flow from my family to his family.

  2. Excellent message, Wade. I learned some valuable truths regarding God’s Word, encouraging me in my personal faith in Jesus, the Christ.

    Blessings to you and yours.

  3. Luke 3:14
And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.

  4. Hi Dee,

It’s ok to take down the GOFUNDME!!!

I have been working and I’m not sure if you got my email awhile ago letting you know that Billy and I will be ok. I want to thank everyone who have seen us through the most difficult time in our lives and I know we still have a long road ahead coping at times. Please know he is doing pretty good and although we may struggle God has completely carried us and has provided. I don’t have words to express my gratitude for the support we have had since we met you and Deb. The Christians here have shown more love and compassion than we received after it all happened. I don’t say this to put down some of those at our former church because I have come to realize a lot of the members were given false information and were lied to. How could we fault them for not knowing? There were some who stood by us and also took some of the heat for standing up for us. All this to say is we are so grateful for this blog and the church community here. All of you kept my faith strong as I saw God use you to care for us. I happy to report that God is opening doors for us that I never dreamed.

Please pray for us as I move into this position that I am a blessing to those who trust me to do the job and that we are able to build life long relationships. So far the people whom we have had the privilege to meet are amazing and have been incredibly kind to my son. They seem to be very fond of him and that makes me so happy. They are thoughtful people and when considering me Billy is included always. What more could a mother ask for from anyone?

    Thank you
    shauna & Billy
