Here Is Our Order of Worship

The Footprints Prayer link

One night I had a dream…

I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and Across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that many times along the path of my life, There was only one set of footprints.

I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in my life This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, You would walk with me all the way; But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, There is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why in times when I needed you the most, you should leave me.

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child. I love you, and I would never, never leave you during your times of trial and suffering. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you.

Don’t Be Discouraged – Helen Steiner Rice

It’s easy to grow downhearted
When nothing goes your way.
It’s easy to be discouraged
When you have a troublesome day.
But trouble is only a challenge
to spur you on to achieve
The best that God has to offer
if you have the faith to believe.

— Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou dost preserve my life;
thou dost stretch out thy hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and thy right hand deliver me.  (Psalm 138:7)

James 1:6 (NASB) link

"But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind."

1 John 5:14 (NASB) link

"This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."

A SHADOW OF DOUBT – Joseph Solomon

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:16-17 (NASB Bible Gateway)

"But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful."

This week's message is by Abraham Wright, who joined the staff of Emmanuel Enid two years ago as a Community Evangelist. The message of Grace changed Abraham’s life his senior year in high school (2002) and he then became obsessed with trying to reach his teammates with the same Good News of Christ that changed his life. Abraham has worked for a few churches and recently worked for Fellowship of Christian Athletes before coming to Emmanuel. He was born in Tulsa, OK and raised in Oklahoma City by a single mother.  Abraham grew up playing football and was able to play college football for the University of Colorado, where he got his B.A. in Sociology. Abraham played one year for the Miami Dolphins in 2007 and was released after his rookie season. You can read more about Abraham here.

The Lord's Prayer (traditional) link

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.
Amen.

Benediction

"Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!"

2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NASB)

Please keep those hurt outside the Manchester (England) arena (50 in number) and the loved ones of those killed (19 so far) in your prayers.
It appears to be a terrorist attack, but that has not yet been confirmed.

A little off topic here, but thought I’d ask. I have a friend who just moved to Charleston, SC and is looking for a church. She found one she likes, but it is very big and hard to connect. If anyone knows of a good one, please share. Thanks!

  4. This July 4, I think Christians should celebrate our independence FROM America.

No serious historian believes there was anything remotely Christian about the motives behind the American Revolution. “Freedom”, to Patriots, often meant the “right” to enslave people and kick Native Americans off their land. (The British were becoming increasingly anti-slavery and insistent on honoring all treaties with First Nations people, and that’s not something the “Founders” wanted to go along with). As much as they tried to pretend their cause was nobler, the truth is still there in plain sight.

As such, I don’t believe Christians can or should celebrate Independence Day the way other Americans celebrate it. It’s a fully pagan holiday. But one of the coolest things the early church did was to subvert pagan ideas and celebrations (such as Saturnalia) by attaching new, Christian meanings to them. I call this process “subversive syncretism” and it’s one of the reasons why Christianity grew so fast in its early period.

So why couldn’t we do that with Independence Day? Christians could use that day to declare our own independence from all worldly nation-states and legal systems, and our sole dependence on God. We could still set off fireworks but attach new, explicitly theological significance to them. The best way to fight pagan civil religions is with good Christian counter-programming, and what better way to start than with the Fourth of July?

Tragically, those numbers have increased.  Praying for the families of those who were murdered and for those who were injured.

I know, Deb. It is so sad.

That poor mother who hadn’t heard from her daughter, and her daughter is now among those who were murdered.
