Prayer of Ambrose of Milan, c 339-97 link

O Lord, who hast mercy upon all, take away from me my sins,
and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirit.
Take away from me the heart of stone,
and give me a heart of flesh,
a heart to love and adore thee,
a heart to delight in thee,
to follow and to enjoy thee,
for Christ's sake.
Amen

Prayer of 1 Clement @ 96 AD link and link

We ask you, Master, be our helper and defender.
Rescue those of our number in distress;
raise up the fallen; assist the needy;
heal the sick; turn back those of your people who stray;
feed the hungry; release our captives; revive the weak;
encourage those who lose heart.
Let all the nations realize that you are the only God,
that Jesus Christ is your Child,
and that we are your people and the sheep of your pasture.
Amen

Scripture Reading: Luke 12:13-21 (NASB Bible Gateway)

Someone in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” But He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or arbitrator over you?” Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

St Francis' Prayer for Holiness  link and link

Dear Father
let us desire nothing else,
let us want nothing else,
let nothing else please us and cause us delight
except our Creator, Redeemer and Savior,
the only true God,
Who is the fullness of good,
all good, every good, the true and supreme good,
Who alone is good,
merciful, gentle, delightful, and sweet,
Who alone is holy,
just, true, holy, and upright,
Who alone is kind, innocent, clean,
from Whom, through Whom and in Whom
is all pardon, all grace, all glory
of all penitents and just ones,
of all the blessed rejoicing together in heaven.
Amen.

Benediction

Phillippians 4:6-7 NASB (Bible Gateway)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Amen.

  1. Hi Wartburg Watchers,

    I just wanted to bring to your attention that Shauna and her son Billy in Texas have pressing financial needs. Dee previously opened the GoFundMe account for them.

    Billy starts school this next week. He needs school supplies and clothes. He and his mom also need food and other necessities. And help paying bills.

  2. Prayer reminder: Harley from Texas is having her foot surgery on Wednesday. Please keep her in prayer from now, on Wednesday, and post-surgery recovery. Her husband will be taking care of her. She is in a great deal of pain.

    Thank you.

  3. @ Tim:

    That’s great news, Tim. Your dad is the first person that I pray for when I open my eyes in the morning. I’ve been praying for your family every day.

    Thanks for keeping us updated on Shauna and Billy as well as others. May they not be forgotten.

    Welcome, Deb. It’s my little ministry.

  5. Prayer requests:

    *Billy in Texas starts school on Tuesday. Please pray for him to have a good year and for good friends. (Please continue to pray for provision for him and his mother Marquis who posts here. Dee has kept the GoFundMe account open for their needs. Thanks to whomever on TWW got Billy a computer, as I posted that many times and didn’t know someone had stepped up. Answer to prayer!)

    *Harley in Texas is having foot surgery on Wednesday and she’s been in a lot of pain. Please pray for her surgery, recovery, and that all goes well.

    *Other needs have been posted from other areas. Problems with eyes. Pain. Finances. Jobs. Cancer/tumors.

    Have a great week friends.

  6. Great message Wade! I think that when you trace greed to its origin, it’s always about coveting something more, not being content with what you have. And as you’ve pointed out, it escalates into an endless stream of wants that is never satisfied.
