Here Is Our Order of Worship

A Prayer of Relinquishment by Richard Foster link

Today, O Lord, I yield myself to You.
May Your will be my delight today.
May You have perfect sway in me.
May your love be the pattern of my living.
I surrender to You my hopes, my dreams, my ambitions.
Do with them what You will, when You will, as You will.
I place into Your loving care my family, my friends, my future.
Care for them with a care that I can never give.
I release into Your hands my need to control, my craving for status, my fear of obscurity.
Eradicate the evil, purify the good, and establish Your Kingdom on earth.
For Jesus’ sake,
Amen.

Prayer attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi link

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
where there is injury, pardon
where there is doubt, faith
where there is despair, hope
where there is darkness, light
and where there is sadness, joy

O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
to be loved as to love
for it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life
Amen

We have been greatly touched by this incredible message delivered last Sunday by Dr. John Stam. Named after his great uncle, John Stam serves as Missions Administrator and Missions Pastor at Emmanuel Enid. Here is a portion of his bio:

John comes from a family with an extensive Christian heritage. His great-grandfather came to Christ shortly after he immigrated to the United States from Holland and was given a Bible to help him improve his English. Most of his children went into some kind of Christian work. "My grandfather was the oldest child and the fifth child was my great Uncle John. After completing his studies at Moody Bible Institute, my great Uncle John traveled to China where he married his college sweetheart Betty Scott. They both had received appointments as missionaries with the China Inland Mission. There in 1934 they, along with their infant daughter Helen Pricilla, were taken hostage by the Maoist rebels. Uncle John and Aunt Betty were beheaded a few days later. Their story is told in a number of books including The Triumph of John and Betty Stam. My father's immediate family also had a good representation in Christian ministry with my uncle Peter Stam serving with the Africa Inland Mission as a missionary in the Congo and as director of the mission, and my Aunt Ruth Jordan serving in Quito, Ecuador with HCJB (Voice of the Andes) — now called HCJB Global."

  1. Why? Oh why??an American flag. I don’t mind the Eagle….but why the flag. Am I the only not American who regularly visits and usually loves this on line church? Please let’s not bring countries and so forth into our worship apart from praying for each other and the places we come from.

  2. Veterans Day is later this week here in the United States, and it was a subtle way of honoring those in the military who have sacrificed so much to kept us safe. We featured a similar photo last November for EChurch.

We are grateful for our readers abroad who add much to the conversation.  Have a blessed Lord's Day.

  3. As always , thanks for the efforts in posting the service.

When I watch the youtube worship videos, I always like to see the pictures of Jesus holding and hugging a “modern” looking man. I picture myself in His embrace. I think it would be neat if I could somehow photoshop my face onto a picture like that:)

I served in the United State Air Force for four years during the late 70s-early 80s, but really didn’t sacrifice anything. I had a minimum wage job when I enlisted, and in the military I learned a trade that I worked in for 29 years until I retired four years ago. When I enlisted it was like a pay raise for me:) I have a military discharge certificate and a DD-214, but I’m a veteran who didn’t give up anything.

  4. @ Lawrence:
I thank you for your service to this country. It keeps this country safe so that I can practice my freedom of speech on this blog. My stepfather Lou, who has been so sick, served in the Air Force for @ 20 years. I honor both of you this week!

Four years of your life is a sacrifice imo! Don’t underestimate that time spent in the service of our country!

My own son did the same and learned a valuable skill while in the Army. (His name is Lawrence too)

    Thank you for serving!

THE GOSPEL: “A Limited Time Offer?”

    hmmm…

    Hello,

Some 1982 years ago God sent his Son Jesus to His countrymen, the nation of Israel, only to be rejected and crucified. Yet three days later God raised up Jesus from the dead and made Him both Lord and Christ. (He, Jesus ) now sits at the right hand of God) Then God raised up faithful men to proclam this ‘good news’ to the Jews first then later to the gentiles, presenting Jesus’ offered of the remission of sins, baptism of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life to all who would believe in Jesus.

    huh?

Yes, Dear Wartburg Reader, this generous offer still stands,

    What?

    Yes, accept Jesus’ offer today,

    You’ll be glad you did!
