Here Is Our Order of Worship

A Prayer by Clement of Rome @96 AD link

You, Lord, through your works have revealed the everlasting structure of the world.
You, Lord, created the earth. You are faithful throughout all generations,
righteous in your judgments, marvelous in strength and majesty,
wise in creating and prudent in establishing what exists,
good in all that is observed and faithful to those who trust in you,
merciful and compassionate; forgive us our sins and our injustices,
our transgressions and our shortcomings.

Do not take into account every sin of your servants, but cleanse us with the cleansing of your truth,
and "direct our steps to walk in holiness and righteousness and purity of heart,
"and "to do what is good and pleasing in your sight" and in the sight of our rulers.
Yes, Lord, "let your face shine upon us" in peace "for our good," that we may be sheltered
"by your mighty hand" and delivered from every sin "by your uplifted arm";
deliver us as well from those who hate us unjustly.
Amen

Give harmony and peace to us and to all who dwell on the earth, just as you did to our fathers when they reverently "called upon you in faith and trust," that we may be saved, while we render obedience to your almighty and most excellent name, and give harmony and peace to our rulers and governors on earth.
Amen

Prayer from the earliest Christians -1 Clement (c. 96)– link

We ask you, Master, be our helper and defender.
Rescue those of our number in distress; raise up the fallen;
assist the needy; heal the sick; turn back those of your people who stray;
feed the hungry; release our captives; revive the weak; encourage those who lose heart.
Let all the nations realize that you are the only God, that Jesus Christ is your Child,
and that we are your people and the sheep of your pasture.
Amen

We are honored to have Paul Burleson (Wade's father) deliver this week's sermon. Paul has been in the ministry for 56 years, 40 of which were in pastoring and the rest in conference/revival work. He and Mary have been married fro 55 years, and they have 4 children, 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Paul blogs at vtmbottomline.com

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 14:22-23 (NASB Bible Gateway)

Jesus Walks on the Water

Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.

Prayer of Ambrose of Milan, c 339-97 link

O Lord, who hast mercy upon all, take away from me my sins,
and mercifully kindle in me the fire of thy Holy Spirit.
Take away from me the heart of stone,
and give me a heart of flesh,
a heart to love and adore thee,
a heart to delight in thee,
to follow and to enjoy thee,
for Christ's sake.
Amen

Benediction- Source unknown – early Scottish link

Deep peace of the running wave to you,
Deep peace of the flowing air to you,
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you,
Deep peace of the shining stars to you,
Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you, for ever.
Amen
