Prayer on the Beatitudes Link

Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Keep us from being preoccupied with money and worldly goods, and with trying to increase them at the expense of justice.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth."
Help us not to be ruthless with one another, and to eliminate the discord and violence that exists in the world around us.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."
Let us not be impatient under our own burdens and unconcerned about the burdens of others.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be filled."
Make us thirst for you, the fountain of all holiness, and actively spread your influence in our private lives and in society.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy."
Grant that we may be quick to forgive and slow to condemn.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God."
Free us from our senses and our evil desires, and fix our eyes on you.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God."
Aid us to make peace in our families, in our country, and in the world.
Lord Jesus, You said, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of justice, for the kingdom of heaven in theirs."
Make us willing to suffer for the sake of right rather than to practice injustice;
and do not let us discriminate against our neighbors and oppress and persecute them.
In Jesus name
Amen

A Moravian Prayer link

Creator of the heavens and earth, praise be to your holy name.
We pray that the gracious ways of heaven may be made real in the world that we inhabit.
We hunger for much more than food today, and we pray that you will satisfy us, and all who have need.
We are awed by your forgiving nature, and pray that you would inspire us to forgive each other in like manner.
While we know that you have created us to be holy,
we ask that you keep us from the temptation of living a life which would tarnish your image within us.
You have created a world that is holy, and your glory and power are displayed in many wonderful ways;
may we give thanks for your blessings all the days our lives, even as we live into eternity.
Amen.

Scripture Reading:  Luke 1:26-33 (NASB Bible Gateway)

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth,  to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.  And coming in, he said to her, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was very perplexed at this statement, and kept pondering what kind of salutation this was. 30 The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”

Prayer of St Richard link

Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits which you have given us,
for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us.
Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother,
may we know you more clearly,
love you more dearly,
and follow you more nearly,
day by day.
Amen

A Prayer of Benedict link

Gracious and Holy Father,
Please give me:
intellect to understand you,
reason to discern you,
diligence to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
a spirit to know you,
a heart to meditate upon you,
ears to hear you,
eyes to to see you,
a tongue to proclaim you,
a way of life pleasing to you,
patience to wait for you
and perseverance to look for you.

Grant me a perfect end,
your holy presence,
a blessed resurrection
and life everlasting.
Amen.

  1. Thanks Wade , for this message. My wife and I actually listened to this message live last week. This message caused me to go back and listen to your Daniel series. It raised many questions for me and dispensation. I always appreciate a message that will cause me to research things out and hopefully God will let me see just a little more of who He is as the veil gets lifted from my eyes. We see through a glass dimly comes to mind.

  2. Kevin,

Thank you, sir, for not only the comment, but for the encouragement given in knowing that someone actually listens and is enticed to do further research. I think you will find that the puzzle pieces fit together beautifully when you come to the settled conclusion that everything in the Scripture is about Christ and His eternal kingdom.

I’m loving Luke and appreciate Deb and Dee using Wartburg Watch as a platform for this study.

  3. Hi Wade,

My wife has been saying now for this past week we have been duped. For the first 30 years of my life I grew up in a religious system, I received Jesus as my Saviour at the age of 30 through a business men’s bible study of the minor prophets. You also should know that eschatology was a major interest for me.
I have struggled in the past with the dispensational period and many questions come to mind.
How did that happen 150 years ago what changed ??? What I do not understand is, if people are stuck on tradition how was it that the preterist view has become minimalized? I get it and you should know that it makes things even tougher to find a church that we can have fellowship with. We live in a very religious community. I am so thankful for this venue.
My wife and I have always believed that we walk equally and what we have gleaned from this study is so freeing.
I have listened to your Daniel series and we are now listening to your Revelation series you are doing on Wednesday night. I could go on but the gist of my post is heartbreaking, many ministries, churches, colleges, universities and missionaries are out there promoting the dispensational teaching putting a yoke upon people that ought not to be there.
I can only come away with that if they come to Christ because of it PRAISE GOD.

    Thank you,
    Kevin
