Here is Our Order of Worship

A Nigerian Prayer link

O Lord, we beseech thee to deliver us
from the fear of an unknown future;
from fear of failure; from fear of poverty;
from fear of bereavement; from fear of loneliness;
from fear of sickness and pain;
from fear of age; from fear of death.
Help us, O Father, by thy grace to love and fear thee only,
fill our hearts with cheerful courage and loving trust in thee:
through our Lord and Master Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Luther's Morning Prayer link

My Heavenly Father,
I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son,
that You kept me safe from all evil and danger last night. Save me,
I pray, today as well, from every evil and sin,
so that all I do and the way that I live will please you.
I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have.
Let Your holy Angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will
not gain power over me.
Amen

Scripture Reading:  Luke 1:13–17 (NASB Bible Gateway)

But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your petition has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will give him the name John.  You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and he will drink no wine or liquor, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother’s womb. And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God. It is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers back to the children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, so as to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Benediction: Psalm 121 (NIV-Bible Gateway)

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
 My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
 He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
 The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
 the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

  1. God measures time according to His purpose; not your pain.

    God is interested in your character; not your comfort.

    hmmm… Try as I might, I cannot find solace in these truths. I’ve never understood why God’s timing allowed Paul to murder hundreds (perhaps thousands) of His people before applying His perfect timing.

    And I cannot understand a parent being unconcerned about a child’s pain and lack of comfort. I understand a believer not being concerned about fame & fortune, reputation, power, etc., but simple physical, mental, spiritual well-being seems like reasonable requests.

    In the end, I realize there are many things about God we will not understand in this life, but those two are the ones I’m going to ask about when I see Him face to face. 🙂

    As always, I appreciate EChurch! Thanks Wade and Deb!

  2. Victorious,

    Many things are difficult for me to understand as well. As a parent, I wish to alleviate my child’s pain at all times, but like the illustration I gave you, if pain ultimately brings healing, I will allow the pain for a greater purpose. God is no sadist. He never delights in your pain, just as you and I do not delight in the pain of those we love. But His purposes never fail, and He is at work within us, conforming us in the image of His Son. As always, thanks for listening and commenting.
