Welcome to Our Gathering of EChurch@Wartburg

Here is our order of worship

A Prayer by William Wilberforce who battled the slave trade Link
O Lord,
reassure me with Your quickening Spirit; without You I can do nothing.
Mortify in me all ambition, vanity, vainglory, worldliness, pride,
selfishness, and resistance from God,
and fill me with love, peace, and all the fruits of the Spirit.
O Lord, I know not what I am, but to You I flee for refuge.
I would surrender myself to You, trusting Your precious promises
and against hope believing in hope.
You are the same yesterday, today, and forever; and therefore,
waiting on the Lord,  I trust that I shall at length renew my strength.
Amen

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:4 (NASB Bible Gateway)

By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks.

(1)   Why is the object of your faith more important than the amount of your faith?

(2)   Can a person be in right standing before God without feeling they are?

(3)   What kind of legacy of faith will your children and grandchildren receive from you?

A Prayer by William Barclay Link

O God, we thank you for all those in whose words and in whose writings your truth has come to us. For the historians, the psalmists and the prophets, who wrote the Old Testament; for all those who in every generation have taught and explained and expounded and preached the word of Scripture: we thank you, O God.

Grant, O God, that no false teaching may ever have any power to deceive us or to seduce us from the truth. Grant, O God, that we may never listen any teaching which would encourage us to think sin less serious, vice more attractive, or virtue less important; grant, O God, that we may never listen to any teaching which would dethrone Jesus Christ from the topmost place; grant, O God, that we may never listen to any teaching which for its own purposes perverts the truth.

God, our Father, establish us immovably in the truth. Give us minds which can see at once the difference between the true and the false; make us able to test everything, and to hold fast to that which is good; give us such a love of truth, that no false thing may ever be able to lure us from it. So grant that all our lives we may know, and love, and live the truth, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Thank you for spending your precious time worshipping the Lord.

  1. Each week I try to find the words that will express my appreciation for the service. Please know the depth of my gratitude when the best I can come up with is, “thank you.”

The hymns obviously chosen to match the tone of the sermon are wonderful. And the sermon so beautifully expounded, brings joy to my heart.

    Blessings to all of you!

  2. After being in SGM for 27 years, these messages are so refreshing… so encouraging! After hearing that I am a sinful worm for so long, hearing a message like this is salve to my soul. Thank you, TWW, for your eChurch and thank you Wade for preaching the grace and love of Christ!

  3. Victorious and Lost in (cyber) Space,

Yesterday (Saturday), I sat at the kitchen table, pulled up Wartburg Watch, and participated in the service for this weekend. I, too, was warmly encouraged! The Word of God is likened to ‘manna’ or ‘bread’ from heaven, and I can say I ate and was filled! 🙂

I also agree that the hymns and prayers are very appropriate. Thanks, Wanda! Internet church is not for everyone, but for those who do participate, it provides a safe refuge for healing with the goal of reconnecting with other believers (and people) in inter-personal relationship!

    Thanks for your comments!

Dee adds the beautiful prayers EVERY week and some of the songs/hymns. How Deep the Father’s Love For Us was sung by your congregation last Sunday before you preached. 🙂
