God bless you for helping those who are being spiritually abused. They usually suffer in silence. Jesus wants us to reach out to them, and I pray they can escape the grips of their abusers. I also pray for God to convict hearts.

When I was in grad school, I friend and I worked hard to help those (many) who were being abused (or had been abused) by those in spiritual authority. They were former members of well known and highly respected parachurch ministries, and members of highly authoritarian sects. I don't know how much we were able to help, but at least they saw that we believed in them and were hurting by how much they had been hurt.
Spiritual abuse happens at many levels, unfortunately.

Lydia,

Dee and I have read the Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse, and Dee wrote a series on this book last year. I highly recommend Jeff VanVonderen's book and our posts on his excellent book. Just check under "Categories".

This is one I have not read. But more and more people are waking up to the spiritual abuse out there. The book, "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Absue" was written a while ago and still very popular. I recommend all his books. One of them is "When God's People Let You Down" and it is excellent for healing. We must take responsibility for following the wolves and hirlings. We must ask ourselves, why did we believe and support them at all? The answer is a deep one and goes back to the fact that most want to follow a human and view them as their authority in the Body of Christ.
