Hi Deb. Re: New City question. I knew he mentioned Josh Harris pretty frequently, but I just thought he was the "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" guy--I had no idea of his connections, or frankly, anything about Sovereign Grace Ministries until I stumbled upon this site yesterday. I'm going to look more into what they are about as well, as it seems like it could play an increasingly visible role at CRPC. I doubt any but the most upper level leaders at New City or CRPC (or those who are personally close with Tullian) would know anything about this group.

zaiche,

Thanks for commenting. I can assure you that Dee is one of the most committed Christians I know. She takes her faith VERY seriously. Dee believes in Old Earth Creationism, but she's gracious to those like yourself who believe in a Young Earth. Unfortunately, she has been exposed to some Young Earth Creationists who came very close to labeling her a heretic.

Here's the issue: is creationism an "A" issue or a "B" issue? Does for Apostle's Creed, for example, affirm a Young Earth? I'm leaning toward Old Earth Creationism myself, although I don't claim to have all the answers.

Here's what I know. God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them. I don't know how He did it; I just believe He did with all my heart. Guess what...no one else knows how He did it either. When I see Jesus face to face I'll ask Him how everything came to be.

Thanks for being open minded enough to check out the sources Dee provided.

May I ask you a question? Did New City members know that Tullian Tchividjian had close connections with those in Sovereign Grace Ministries like C.J. Mahaney and Josh Harris? I read somewhere that New City sang some Sovereign Grace music. Is that true, and was this music introduced to CRPC once the merger took place?

We appreciate your thoughtful comment.

No, I'm not offended and I will take your response and the resources offered in it as an answer to my prayer for guidance and understanding. I believe God will answer my sincere desire for truth, whatever that might be. Thank you for your time.

Hi Zaiche

Welcome to our blog. I am afraid that we are about to disappoint you. Both of us are committed Christians and strongly believe in the essentials of the faith. What I am asking you to do is to think bout what I am going to say. Did you know that well over 95% of all committed Christian scientists believe in an old earth and most of them are theistic evolutionists? Did you know that greater than 50% of all committed Christians also believe similarly or hold no stated belief in this subject.

Much of what one would find on Ken Ham's Answers in Genesis site has been discredited. Radiometric dating has become very accurate out to millions of years.Much of the research present there is decades old.

Theistic evolutionists believe that God created the heavens and the earth and imbued man specifically with a soul so that man is created in the image of God. They believe that God created DNA which he uses as the building blocks of all life. Did you know that we share around 80% of DNA structure with a moth? About 48% DNA with a banana? We believe that He created this DNA and has used it in the construction of all living life forms. It is a marvelous work!

Do you remember the story of Galileo? He was imprisoned for showing that the earth revolved around the sun. We laugh at such a concept these days. Could it be that the same thing will be thought of those who believe in a young earth in years to come? In fact that day is almost here. The evidence is becoming incontrovertible. Here is my question. So what? It just shows that God us far more complex than we can ever begin to imagine.

Christian scientists love the Lord. They are not part of some vast conspiracy to hide the truth. In fact, they follow the One who is called The Truth.

Here is what I would ask of you. Please look at three sites: Answers In Creation, Reason to Believe and Biologos. Answers in Creation directly rebuts all of the supposed "proofs" at Answers in Genesis. If you really take the time, it will take you awhile to digest the information. As the Scripture says, Perfect love casts out all fear." At the minimum, you will understand what these dedicated Christians believe and you will become educated. I have read almost all of the Answers in Genesis site myself and have read a number of books written by YE proponents.I am not afraid to have my shibboleths challenged.

Here is where I am at. As I look at the heavens, I see galaxies and the light that comes from those galaxies left a long time ago. I believe in the God of Truth. If He created the stars to send light on route, then He could quite conceivable be thought of as deceitful. Yet, He tells us in Romans 1:28 that man is without excuse when he looks at nature.I think the light left many eons ago.

Finally, all of us who believe in an ancient universe created by the Ancient of Days believe firmly and wholeheartedly with the authority of Scripture. The sites that I have referred you to will explain that concept. We love the Lord and believe that He is the Uncaused First Cause.

Also, please read our take on Waltke. We believe that he is an honest, Scripturally accurate theologian. Just click on his name on the right side column entitled categories. Also, I would love to answer in questions that you have on this matter. Please email me at dee@thewartburgwatch.com.

I pray that I have not offended you.

I am a current member of CRPC and was part of New City pre-merger. I have been under Tullian's preaching for over 6 years and have been blessed by his preaching. However, I have learned many disturbing things and I am praying for the Lord to open the door for a new church (we've been looking around and it is slim pickings). The newest problem is the likely hiring of Bruce Waltke at Knox Seminary. This man is a noted theistic evolutionist and if this is something my pastor believes (I plan to ask if/when the hiring takes place), then I can no longer stay under his teaching. If Genesis is up for grabs, where is the authority of Scripture for him?

E LaTouche

Are you a previous member of Coral Ridge? Are you part of the new church? I am so sorry for the way this whole thing was handled. It would have been so easy to rectify what happened but it looks like the "authoritative" pastor is always right even when he is wrong.By wrong, I mean, not keeping first things, first. My way or the highway rarely brings about good results. Yet, this approach seems to be the current method "du jour." So sad.
