Dee,

What you say is correct regarding our family, and community. We witness in our spear of influence, but when we go outside our spear of influence we need to follow the example of Jesus.
Jesus and His followers were executed by their own people or the government of Rome. This may happen in the future to us, but if we go outside our country then we need to do as taught by Jesus.

Mortal
Agreed. But in every situation, the development of friendship takes time. Building trust is a beginning of openness. Then we need to define terms. How little time we spend in getting to know what one another mean.
Also, it is difficult to know when to shake the dust off. What about our families who don't come to know Him. Doesn't our love for them along with friends keep us hanging around and hoping?
Haven't forgotten about your question. We will put it into the lineup for a Friday question.

"I sincerely believe that Jesus calls us to go into these situations. “Upon this rock I will build my church and the very gates of hell will not prevail against it.” It seems to me that Jesus is calling us to pound on the very gates of hell. Besides which, the Mormons I encountered were actually quite nice and politely answered all of my questions".
The above is true, but Jesus also instructed His disciples and us in Luke 10 v 11 on what to do if their words were returned to them when they went into a town or spoke to people. They are to go outside the city, and shake the dust off of their feet as a testimony against them. I am not sure why we Christians do not do the same thing. I am not sure a long witness is what we are to do, once the Word is rejected by the person we are to shake the dust off our feet as a testimony against them. This teaching of Jesus also would prevent the killing of Christians around the world. If we are not wanted we are to leave. Jesus did this in Luke 8 v 37 after he cast out demons from a man in Gadarenes.
The Mormon religion is a man made religion and it makes a mockery of the Word of God. They basically are telling us that God sent Jesus to us, He died for us, He rent the veil, and yet all this was not enough or successful so God decided He needed to save mankind another way, and the Mormons believe this is through their Prophet. If we can go directly to Jesus and to our church leaders for biblical instructions why would God also need to set up a Prophet as the one and only person with the only, sort of special knowledge of the Word of God. This is not possible, the Mormons are a fraud.

You are right! I forgot about that. He absolutely refused to read any books or articles. He claimed he was too busy writing his Mormon concordance but maybe he was a bit afraid.

I agree with you Anonymous. I think Dee's witness to a Mormon for 18 months has given him some important things to ponder...

I don't know ANY Christians, including myself, who would have had the patience to meet with him for that long. Dee patiently read materials he gave her, and from what I remember about the situation, the friendship abruptly ended when Dee requested that he read some of her Christian books. Hopefully, she'll clarify this.

The concept of unacknowledged doctrines is very important. That is part of the cultural structure (there are other points) that keep some churches from being accessible to people.

I was really interested in the story about the Mormon. Don't think, even now, that this may still not be lingering in his mind.

Intense researching of other religions? Hmmm, reminds me of that time when I was 13 and I got into an argument with a Rabbi online... didn't end well.

Oh and Churh #1 also enjoys teaching that the belief in Extra-Terrestrials is rooted in the search for God. So if you think that there is a chance that other life-forms exist beyond our own solar system, well you must be an atheist. Blew. My. Mind.

Church #1 also likes to promote under the radar that schools such as UNC-CH are terrible for Christians and if you go there you will of course lose your faith. Much better to go to school such as Liberty where you can get a degree in Creationism. (Young Earth I would assume)
